For instance, someone who is allegedly a creative writing teacher and claims a list of credits, tells a poster that William Faulkner wrote East of Eden! He DID NOT WRITE IT! John Steinbeck wrote the book, and then this person further enables the poster to be lazy by telling them the plot of the book! Why not tell the person to actually READ the material?! It seems people on this site want to impress everyone with what they perceive as their vast knowledge, and over half the time they give the wrong answers! In addition, it seems most of the questions here can be easily answered by Googling or going to Wikipedia. What gives with this site as a reference point? Again, most answers could be ACCURATELY answered by Googling instead of asking people who don't know what they are talking about!

You think it's going to be about Vampires in the 1800's era but no.... Its in modern times.

This girl, Bella, moves to live with her dad that new school year. She starts highschool in this little town. And then she ends up falling for guy who is a vampire, Edward.

In my opnion its better than Harry Potter and its a huge rage in Mesa, Arizona right now.

I literally didn't go to sleep for 24 hours because I HAD to finish that book then I went out the next day and got New moon (the 2nd book).

I was just curious, and wanted to see who has read it and for those who haven't...... if you are looking for a good read then this is it.

also, what was his relationship to charles lyell, and richard owen?

It came out in the early 80's, possibly in the 70's. I can't remember the title and I'll be amazed if anyone has ever heard of it.

The story is about this girl who lives with her mother and younger brother. The brother is poisoned by a sticker given to him by a creepy man. The girl (in high school) and her new boyfriend go to the boyfriend's aunts, who are witches, to find a way to save the brother. The witches perform a spell that she must drink, which opens her to her natural powers and she fights the creepy man (a wizard).

As I said, it's an old and obscure book. It might have been English (as in, from England) since I think it was set near London.

What is the silmarilion about? Is it a good book? Can I read before I read the Lord of the Rings trilogy?

I have seen the three Lord of the Rings movies. Now I want to read the book because I loved the movies so much. However, I am afraid that I wrecked my ability to enjoy the books because I saw the movie first. Can I still have the wonderful experience reading the books as most do if I have already seen the movies?

I heard that janet evanovich is pretty good, but then I borrowed one of her books and before I got to page ten there was kinky sex talk and harsh swears (not like crap or damn).
So, don't recommend her, please!!!
A good book (it could be romantic, action, mystery, whatever as long as it is funny) that doesn't have what turned me off in the evanovich book.
by the way the title of the book I am no longer reading is "Three to Get Deadly."
Yes, I know that parts of her books are really funny (I read a few funny paragraphs before I put it away) but I want something a bit more . . . uh. . . wholesome? Nothing cheesy, though, I'm not 10.

I am in the process of writing my first children's book. It is non-fiction.....and I want to use photographs that I have found on the internet. My dream is to have it published by Scholastic, Inc. My questions are these: what is the process of publishing? What is a good way to get my manuscript to Scholastic? How do I gain legal rights to the photos on the internet? Or are the photos not protected by copyright laws because they were posted on the net? I would love to hear your publishing stories, PLEASE!

So many people have asked how to publish a novel. I'm really tired of this question. So, here is the way to go about it.

1. Write the novel.
2. Edit it over and over again so it's free of grammar and spelling errors. So it's free of any contradictions regarding the description of characters or times and places.
3. Buy a copy of Writers Market. About 30 bucks. Then buy some books on writing. These books will help you with formatting your work . . . Industry Standard.
4. In Writers Market, find a literary agent that accepts the genre you've written the book in.
5. Write a query letter along with a synopsis. The books you buy on writing will show you how to do this. It should be free of errors in grammar and spelling. Errors in a query letter are an instant reject.
6. If an agent has an interest in your work, you will be asked to send the first three chapters. These must be formated properly.
7. If accepted, you will be asked to send the entire manuscript.

When I was at school we read a book about some children who were sent to stay with relatives in Ireland. While they were they they kept having flashbacks to the potato famine. I really enjoyed it, and I would like to find a copy of it, but I can't for the life of me remember the title. I'm pretty sure the author's first name was Mary, but I don't know the surname. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
