I'm looking for a book about a young girl who lives in a village along the Rio De Janeiro. She's very poor and works as a typewritist, and she lives in a "apartment" with several other girls. In this book the girl is real quiet and timid and malnutritioned. She falls in love for a guy, they become boyfriend and girlfriend. He's always telling her that he's gonna become this very successful man, and in the end he breaks up with her for one of her coworkers. The coworker is supposedly the prettiest girl because she bleaches her leg hairs and mustache. Since all these people are real poor the book is kind of a tragedy, because in the end the girl dies. I cant remember her name, but I think it starts with an "N". I'm not sure though... I read this book in 7th grade, but this book is for very adult readers. Thanks!

If so, have you found it helpful?
Have you applied the advice given in the book to your own life?

I read an article on it today on cnn.com and it sounds like an interesting read, but was interested in getting some feedback from people who have actually read the book.

One wading a Fall meadow finds on all sides
The Queen Anne's Lace lying like lilies
On water; it glides
So from the walker, it turns
Dry grass to a lake, as the slightest shade of you
Valleys my mind in fabulous blue Lucernes.
The beautiful changes as a forest is changed
By a chameleon's tuning his skin to it;
As a mantis, arranged
On a green leaf, grows
Into it, makes the leaf leafier, and proves
Any greenness is deeper than anyone knows.
Your hands hold roses always in a way that says
They are not only yours; the beautiful changes
In such kind ways,
Wishing ever to sunder
Things and things' selves for a second finding, to lose
For a moment all that it touches back to wonder.

Can you be really specific also.

I read alot and was wondering what people think about Terry Goodkinds book Wizards First Rule. I happen to love the book. I checked out the CD unabridged version.( it was 32 hours long) and fell in love with it. Now I am listening to the second book in the serier called "Stone of Tears'. I was just wondering if the entire series is just as good. Since the book has about 10 books in the series. I am now a Terry Goodkind fan for life after reading this. What do you all think??? Comments Appreciated
