The grandmother represents all of us in our human condition.
She has all sorts of petty obnoxiousness about her. She's not evil, she has some warmth in her: consider her discussion of the "pickaninny," she showed a kinder heart than the children, in spite of her use of a word usually considered offensive.
She stupidly brings her cat on the trip. If you think about it, her attachment to her cat could be kind of endearing, but there are good reasons for not bringing a cat on a road trip! She's a combination of wisdom and cluelessness, love and selfishness. Just like all of us.
At the moment of her death, she seems to be visited by a spiritual grace; all her silliness is irrelevant.
Grace is a gift from God that is not deserved. But you have to be willing to accept it. Grandmother was willing. The Misfit wasn't.

I've read it, I think it's a terrible story. You might want to mention in your essay what the hell is going on with the characterisation of the mother, who is a total blank throughout when anyone who's been in that situation knows that the tension between the wife+husbands is always a central concern, and they're her kids who are being slaughtered for God's sake and she barely says a word or reacts. Not to mention the ridiculous coincidence of them driving down some random back country road only to run straight into the fugitive and his 'gang'. It's so unbelievable, the characters are so inhuman and fake - the whole thing is silly.

It's all a big set up for the grandmother and the fugitive (whose name I cant remember) to have this big stage managed conversation where the grandmother insists that everyone must have some good in them even though she's spent most of the journey indicating that she thinks everyone has some bad in them - mistrustful and cynical as she is.

Don't be afraid to kick the author's *** in your essay if you're not convinced by the story. What's good and what isn't is subjective.

I always find it helps to form the thesis with the "although" formula. All thesis' should be debatable. "Although the ending of the story is tragic, O'Conner has created a story that becomes comedic while exploring the existence of evil". Or some such. Good luck.

identity decide on delight and Prejudice via Jane Austen and Jane Eyre via Charlotte Bronte. both one among them are tremendous books that i extremely love. regardless of the indisputable fact that the middle is a lonely hunter via Carson McCullers sounds solid and that i imagine it should be better effective in case you chosen 2 sorts of books that weren't resembling one yet another.
