Does anyone have pictures, or a link to, to the old Waldorf Astoria hotel, that stood at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and West 34th Street in New York City before 1930, when construction of the Empire State building began?

The Moral Equivalent of Murder

1. The absolutely wealthy are allowing the absolutely poor to die.
2. If there is no moral difference between allowing someone to die and killing them, then the absolutely wealthy are killing the absolutely poor.
3. There is no moral difference between allowing someone to die and killing them.
So, the absolutely wealthy are killing the absolutely poor.

I dont want to agree with it but I can't think of an counter example.

this arugemnt is from Peter Singer: “Rich and Poor” and “Famine, Affluence, and Morality”

I'm looking for a dramatic MALE monologue. I really need something strong, very strong and hopefully something that I can show my range of expression. I'd really like to have some tears in it. Any thoughts?

In Switzerland, especially, it seems like the Nazis left a big hole in the wall of their "Fortress Europe." Why didn't they plug the hole?

Thanks!

i just finished my first major theatre production. it's the first time i was ever deeply involved with a production and i feel like i'm really lacking.

see, as i was backstage (i was on headset listening to stage manager orders, i was AD) i signal the guys (we did 'odd couple') to get ready to get on stage. it was opening night. i knew "break a leg" is the usual thing to say, but i said "good luck" instead and the guy who played oscar hushed me really fast and told me never never EVER say good luck. because it's bad luck in theatre.

and later on, when the girls were getting ready (we actually did both the female and male versions of this play at my hs) the female leads brought a bouquet of a certain kind of flower (can't remember the name of it) that was supposed to bring you good luck on stage if you rub its petals.

i suppose my question is what are those little theatre superstitions and traditions i should know? any terms, any anything? i'd like to be up to speed.

To those that think we have a moral obligation to take care of others, no matter if we want to or not, why do we have this obligation? (I am not talking about your own family, but 'others' in general.)

I'm not looking for a 'god' answer, but a well considered, non-mystical, fundamental answer addressing why we have this moral obligation. When I say fundamental, if I am able to ask 'why' to your answer, you haven't given me a fundamental answer.

(So, I am in essence asking why altruism is a moral obligation.)

I would like to buy the Cokin P system for my sis as a gift. She just started with landscape photos. Should I ask B&H for specifics such as: adaptor ring, holder, ND filter and Grad ND filter? Is a star filter worth adding as well? When I looked up the list of filter kits a slew of filters came up and I wonder which ones are important for landscape and not so . I am confused and would like to get a kit she will really like. Thank you in advance for any help.

P.S. Although she uses Photoshop, I know she is practicing getting the pic as perfect as possible out of the camera and if using filters does it for her then it makes gift times easier for me. Thank you again
