It IS scary, keep reading. You have to pay attention to it and give it a chance - read it without distractions. The problem is that a lot of people are desensitized to things that would have scared the bejesus outta them 10, 15, 20 years ago. There's not a tremendous about of gore, it's just plain creepy.

If you read it without distractions there's a chance you'll get sucked into the story (every author's goal) and actually get scared. It's hard for the scariest of scary books to give you the creeps in Barnes & Nobles or with all the lights on in your room. People set the mood for a scary movie, do the same for a book. You will be pleasantly surprised.

I thought that it was scary but I thought the end was a little disappointing which is a criticism that I've had for a lot of Steven King books. It's definitely worth reading though.

Yes you should keep reading, though I do think you have lost something by seeing the movie, part of the terror of the book is that when you envision pennywise you will envision what is terrifying to you. If the way that they depicted him in the movies doesn't terrify you then you are at some what a disadvantage

I was surprised that when I read it, I also dreamed about it and thought about it during the times I was not reading. i really enjoyed the book and because it is quite long, i reasoned that it had found a niche inside my brain.
Worth the read sorry you saw the movie first, though, that may ruin the whole experience for you, I know it does for me.

I thought it was, but I suppose every person is different. I am a huge Stephen King fan, and I will admit that it is not one of my favorite of his books.

Edit: Elizabeth---I thought the movie was lame, as has been most adaptations of King's thrillers. Something about seeing it visually instead of imagining it causes it to lose some of the fear factor for me. Stephen King has a very unique gift for describing seemingly innocuous mundane things and making them seem sinister--something about seeing that on the screen reverses the process somehow and takes the edge off it. At least that's been my experience!

You should keep reading, I always find it harder to get into a book after I've seen the movie though. The books are almost always better than the movies.

Kid, instead of wasting time here asking this ridiculous question, just keep reading. Or, rent the movie if reading proves too much for you.

You have a ways to go before it gets scary. Pennywise is spooky.
