the intro into a story can be the most important part. i want to see if this flows well. let me know

My son, Franklin Eric Dawes, was born in a Memphis hospital in July of 1973 just before dawn. I considered giving him up to a family that could afford to give him a good life, where he could grow up with both a mother and father and maybe a tire swing in the backyard. In the end though, I just couldn't do it.
He was mine, and i was going to keep him. I would just have to figure out the rest as I went.
His father was long gone and living in Washington by the time he was born. He had made it abundantly clear that he wanted nothing to do with a child. His feeble attempt at responsibility came as a red-faced offer to pay for an abortion, which I refused. We never spoke again after that....

so, does this make you want to read on?

How could Churchill and Roosevelt betray and backstab all of eastern europe especially Poland, who was responsible for dozens upon dozens of kills during the Battle of Britian not to mention Monte Cassino, the Home Army, cracking the German Enigma Code, Operation Market Garden, and the Falaise Pocket including several other Polish contributations. But once the war was over the western allies let Stalin do whatever he pleased to Poland. How could you respect these men?

Gingerly sweet the whisper seeps
Through the forest so deep
Beyond the king of three winters go
A freshly fallen virgin snow
Deep in the abyss kindles a spark
Can you hear the silenced lark?

Soft and tender my journey's step
To the old woman who has wept
The perilous forest is unforgiving
Especially to those among the living
Weeping still she rests near the stream
Echoes not her grieving scream

Curious eyes watch in sorrow
for none know what comes the morrow
Upon bended knee in the moon's glow
A solitary tear to the stream below
She cradles the warrior like a child
Deep within this forest so wild

Tarnished armour blades of rust
So fragile this tender trust
Linger long her mournful sobs
For a life the gods have robbed
Brave warrior of old all agree
But fate comes to even thee.

The air seems so tranquil and yet upsetting
you listen quietly for a very slight lullaby
only to listen carefully and here a murmuring
listening you just sit, listen, and finally cry
how can something so beautiful be nevermore
a tree in the light is still a tree at night
dont let your imagination drape you in horror
you can look once or twice but you dont lose sight
something so passionate and lovely turns cruel
the things you hear are full of hateful treachery
you remember memories and feel like a fool
moments that were golden now fall into memory
you sit in a corner hiding and biding some time
who wants to face something so twisted and black
when they can imagine good in there little mind
not able to think and wishing a switch to your back
knowing its over every tender moment that was kind

If the following sentence was the first line of the opening paragraph to a long novel that you were going to write, how would you write the rest of the paragraph??

The market, a large open square with wooden houses on two sides, some containing first-floor shops, was crowded with various carts laden with grains, vegetables, wood, hides, and whatnot.

Memorial day for the war dead. Add now the grief of all your losses to their grief, even of a woman that has left you. Mix sorrow with sorrow, like time-saving history, which stacks holiday and sacrifice and mourning on one day for easy, convenient memory. Oh, sweet world soaked, like bread, in sweet milk for the terrible toothless God. "Behind all this some great happiness is hiding. "No use to weep inside and to scream outside. Behind all this perhaps some great happiness is hiding. Memorial day. Bitter salt is dressed up as a little girl with flowers. The streets are cordoned off with ropes, for the marching together of the living and the dead. Children with a grief not their own march slowly, like stepping over broken glass. The flautist's mouth will stay like that for many days. A dead soldier swims above little heads with the swimming movements of the dead,
