80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

I can't remember the T-shirt that used to be around so much when I was younger... oh yes, "Life is hard and then you die."
That sounds pretty much like the mood of your question... dark, brooding, kind of helpless and definitely hopeless.
There are days like that, I know... then there's the next day, and for some darn reason it's all bright and cheery and full of promise. A person just never really knows; nobody can accurately predict their future.
For most of the people on this earth what you wrote as an average life will never happen for them. They quit school in the ninth grade, work chopping cotton, never marry... it can all be quite different.
As for you, I think there is a point in life for you, or you wouldn't bother 'spending' five points to ask this question. You have some kind of interest. That's good. You may even be conducting some kind of survey, which is okay too. Maybe you have a wager as to what kind of answers you'll get, I don't know. It's all okay as long as you don't pretend you're omniscient, because many people will tell you that you aren't.
You don't have to do things against your will once you are adult. For some of us it takes a long time to become a real
adult, but we get around to it. Then we finally know that we don't know so much after all. Everything gets more interesting. Boredom goes out the window. Just keep on and you'll see, if you don't already. Take it easy, but take it...

You wouldn't be here in the first place if not for a reason.
All things exist with a purpose, but not everyone can see that. A drug crazed won't know what's happening around him. A depressed won't feel any logic by sitting on his frustrations. An aimless won't even dare to find ways for his survival.
The point is: most people content in just being pointless in life. They prefer to just brood, and mock, and erase every point they come across with. They cannot even preserve this life as a great gift from above. They simply miss the points of why they are here on earth.

A point to life? the meaning of life? you ask this like it is accessible knowledge. what is the point for us being? for us existing on this earth? a question that has deprived history's greatest thinkers of many hours of sleep. what my personal belief's are is that there is none. at least in the selfish way. I don't think life is about being tested to get into a heaven or having success and happiness. what the point of life is, is to build something for the next generation. to progress humanity further so that the next generation can do the same. so if you come to that very logical explanation you realize that there truly is no point at the end therefore no meaning. there is no reward or prize, just the knowledge that the people after you are somehow effected by your life, be a small or large impact.

Loads of people don't graduate from college or get married or have children. Are their lives less important? Of course not. Why does there have to be a point? Isn't LIVING the point?

I don't know but I'm going to make the best of it. I'm going to laugh and love and dance and sing and invite others to do the same. I'm going to help as many people as I can and when I need help, I'm going to thank the person that helps me. I'm going to learn everything I can and pass it along to whomever wants to learn. I'm going to smell those roses, dead or not because they still smell so very sweet! C'Mon! Dance!
The moment you are born is the moment you begin to die. it's the DASH in your life that matters!!!

Good question.
I don't know either.
I once asked a teacher, and she said everyone has a different meaning of life.
it's something you have to make by your own.
when you grow older you will understand.
but...
maybe if you do something you like, it will help. find a job you will love to do and then that will be the happiest life ever!

The only hope for a real point to life is that we were created. God is the only source of real purpose, real meaning and therefore a real point to life.
