Memorial day for the war dead. Add now the grief of all your losses to their grief, even of a woman that has left you. Mix sorrow with sorrow, like time-saving history, which stacks holiday and sacrifice and mourning on one day for easy, convenient memory. i would say its takes a unrealistic look at the day, yes while some may just view it as another holiday (off work and off school) many do really honor the fallen soldiers and the ones who contributed to what they thought was our best interest. the purpose of the day is to honor those who have passed on, more then the conditions which caused them to fall, the only happiness i can see in it is that we do, as a nation, honor those who gave their lives, rather then totally forgetting them, i am certain their families and friends remember them every day!
as to the "children with grief not their own", children should be taught the history of humankind, both of their families and their community, its healthy for them to grieve, and be sad for the passing of others, while at the same time being happy for the life that was lead, the acts done by the departed
so i think this is a very dark, one-sided look at the whole day
