A friend of mine and I wanted to do Duo Interpretation for Speech & Debate at school, and we're kinda stuck on ideas. It has to be school-appropriate and has to have some sort of relevance to society.

By the way, we are both girls.

We'd prefer something humorous, but any other good suggestions will work.

I'm kinda having a hard time narrowing my own internet search down. There's just so much out there!

Even if born in the United States , your mom and dad maybe born here too, BUT where were the grannies from ? Iam trying to find out how people loose their original language , culture ,even religion . The third generation oh Hispanics [no matter from what country] born in the United States either do not speak Spanish or have difficulty with speaking it! The old custums and religion beliefs are mostly lost , yet they [we] continue to say we are Hispanics! I know 4 generation Italians who dont speak Italian , are not catholic , and are loyal to the United States , WHAT GIVES? How is this possible? I being Puertorican [not born here] relate to my ancestors , speak spanish , have lost religion a bit, but Iam loyal to Puertorico and the Independence party, my sons , on the contrary are very much americanised, but speak Spanish fluently, what makes a human being loose their original ancestry?

So, it's been said that the first step in gaining knowledge is to know that you don't know. If that's the case, and if it's a good thing to understand that you don't know the answer and then ask the questions to get the answer, why do I consistantly feel stupid? I'm not stupid, I just know that I don't understand and that I want to understand because all knowledge is worth having. Any thoughts?

And by the way ... don't be mean or a jack@ss.

ok #1: i am writing in 2nd person
#2: i appreciate criticism, but please, im only 13. keep that in mind, ok? thanks.

here it is (its a rough draft)

A blinding flash of light. Brakes protested against the pavement. Everything tightened and compressed. Beyond the white flashes was a blur. Metal on metal shrieked. Becoming enclosed in a fiery cage of sparks and flames, bodies flying past. Hitting the pavement with a gory crunch. Then nothing but darkness…
Melody lay on the hot pavement, battered and broken. She opened her eyes groggily - her vision had been mashed into a blurred mess of flashing lights and rushed movement. How much time had gone by? For a moment, she seemed weightless, floating in a state of dream. Reality came crashing down around her suddenly– deafening sounds flooded her ears. Sirens screamed her name all around her, the sour smell of gas, smoke and burning rubber filled her nostrils.

I found this post on a philosophy forum and thought it was an interesting argument. Does anyone have an argument AGAINST it?

1. Despite obvious differences between human and nonhuman animals, we share a capacity to suffer, and this means that they, like us have interests in not suffering. If we ignore or discount their interests simply on the grounds that they are not of the same species, the logic of our position is similar to that of the racist or sexist - he who thinks that to be white or male is to be inherently superior in moral status, irrespective of other qualities and characteristics.

Some humans - infants and those with severe intellectual disabilities - have less ability to reason and less self-awareness than some nonhuman animals. So we cannot justifiably use these criteria to draw a distinction between all humans on the one hand and all nonhuman animals on the other.
