Ambition is socially acceptable word for greed. It is a question of wanting. Wanting more. Wanting more money, more power, more wealth, etc. Most religions and most philosophies speak to the danger of greed and wanting.
Ambition is particular dangerous if anger and jealousy are involved. These people will ignore your humanity, defy your dignity and respect to get what they want. And look out for anyone who stands in their way.
I disagree that little ambition is a problem. Enlightenment does require ambition. Spiritual and personal growth does not require ambition. Connecting with others humans does not require ambition. Inner peace or inner silence does not require ambition.
I sometimes poke fun at we humans as: could you imagine two squirrels fighting to wear a raccoon hat. Or two beavers fighting to see who has the biggest and better dam.
Ambition is generally counter-intuitive to the humanities.

Your comparing apples to oranges. The burned building likely wasn't insured and there were inadequate governmental services around to put out the fire without payment first. We don't know the particulars other than the fact that the building is in an area where the people have little or no money. We cannot judge a peoples motivation by the type of government they have. If we did, would we not be considered worse because we allow babies born within the US to become citizens while their fathers can be considered illegal aliens?

Too much of a good thing is bad. That is true. Balance is always acheived in nature and it is inevitable in all things. Where there is something extreme to one end, there will be an equally opposing force to balance it. This is also the belief of many religions and certain other brilliant minds. "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction". Einstein I believe.
