I have a book that I vvrote that is like 200 pages on my computer. I have edited it to all and have had other people look for errors (I'm a first time author) My novel is a very adult scifi thriller that I have been vvorking on for over a year.
I knovv it can be published not only because its good, but because I'm only 15, what other teen has ever vvritten a book?? Not a short story, but a novel.
Anyvvay its really adult because some things vvent on in my life that i needed to vent about, so vvhile I'm a kid, for kids this book vvas not vvritten. (A suicide and four brutal murders, also a explicit, but vvell vvritten sex scene that is totally necessary) So...vvhat do i do next?

I just got back from the Pearl Harbor memorial on Oahu, which has once again sparked my interest in the ship my great grandfather was killed on. I believe it was an ammunition ship that was located in the Guadalcanal. I have searched the internet, and have not found much! Any ideas?

Okay, the dorks who wrote my AP EURO textbook enjoy the art of slipping in vague references never before mentioned in the textbook with no explanation. here Is the paragraph preceding this reference to the family/group:

"The church of the thirteenth century was being undermined by more than internal religious disunity. The demise of imperial power meant the papacy in Rome was no longer the leader of anti-imperial (Guelf, or propapal) sentiment in Italy. Instead of being the center of Italian resistance to the emperor, popes now found themselves on the defensive against their old allies. That was the ironic price paid by the papacy to vanquish the Hohenstaufens."

Who are the Hohenstaufens, and how did 'vanquishing' them benefit the papacy?

No, I'm not asking you to do my homework--I just don't understand this reference. Or am I just too stupid to be taking AP classes?!

Well, to make a long story short, I need three quotations from 1984 by George Orwell. One, two, three, fifty, any number you give me will help. I specifically need at least one that relates to how in the Party, they weren't allowed to really speak their mind or have their own opinions. The other ones should just have to do with the Party and the strictness of it, and how it works and such. Also, all the quotations should have page numbers. THANK YOU SO MUCH. If I can get three, this helps so much you can't even believe.

I have to find a 20-second long reading to do for my drama class tomorrow. It can be from anything, (movies, books, songs, etc.). I need a 20-second long monologue. I was thinking about something from a book/movie. I really like the Harry Potter series, books and movies, and I enjoy reading The Clique. I'm kinda thinking something girly, like maybe an excerpt from Mean Girls or something like that??

Anyway, give me your opinions! Thanks! (And answer soon, I need it for tomorrow morning!!)

Thanks!! :)

I can read the first few lines of a story and begin my own story in that same mannner, not copying the words but having the same beat as what is written. This helps motivate me to write. For instance, I might read somehting written by any famous author and sustitute it with my own word and the beat of the writing in the same. Does anyone know what this is called? Thanks

Half a lifetime ago when I read The Great Gatsby in highschool, our English teacher told us the name of the literary technique whereby an author captures the essence of an entire character with a single attribute - for instance, Daisy with her lilting, melodic voice - the voice that was "full of money!"

I suppose it could be said that Nabokov also captured Lolita with her name in that memorable opening passage... "She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock...[but] Dolores on the dotted line..."

I think it's a wonderful device and for several years I have struggled to remember the name of it, and have searched for it online to no avail. Can one of you fine English scholars help me remember?

Thank you!
