One might take the tip of the pencil and magnify it. One reaches the point where a stunning realization strikes home: The pencil tip is not solid; it is composed of atoms which whirl and revolve like a trillion demon planets. What seems solid to us is actually only a loose net held together by gravity. Viewed at their actual size, the distances between these atoms might become league, gulfs, aeons. The atoms themselves are composed of nuclei and revolving protons and electrons. One may step down further to subatomic particles. And then to what? Tachyons? Nothing? Of course not. Everything in the universe denies nothing; to suggest an ending is the one absurdity.
Could it be that everything we can perceive, from the microscopic virus to the distant Horsehead Nebula, is contained in one blade of grass that may have existed for only a single season in an alien time-flow?
Just Think how small such a concept of things make us.

There has been a hole found in the universe. Not a black hole swallowing everything up, not a dense fog... but a HOLE. There are no stars in it, no planets...nothing shining from inside. What if this hole is really a tear? What if beyond that hole is nothing? What if we aren't really here?

I have been thinking about this, and realized that if no one knows you or remembers you, technically you aren't here anymore! You are non existant. I think we believe we are here, as individuals, because people know us. They recognize us and remember us...Even if we don't want to be here, we are going to, because we have a network...

What do you guys think?

I'm trying to find information a relative of my late mother. She was living in Paris or nearby when the Nazis invaded. She took a boat to Oslo but fled to England when the Germans took over that city. Later she was killed in an explosion, I'm speculating by a bomb because apparently no remains were found. Sorry to be vague and gruesome at the same time, but I'm going on third-hand information, at best.

Would she have arrived in England at the time of the Blitz or afterwards? I have read that the Germans bombed England until late in the war. What kind of bomb could practically vaporize a human?

Did many refugees travel the France > Norway > England route in the early days of the war? If anyone can suggest where I can learn information about refugee ships between these countries, I'd appreciate it.

I wasn't sure if I should post this question under Military (WWII) or History. Thanks.

In LOTR, Tom Bombadil describes himself as "the master" but the whole text makes me unsure of what or who he is the master of. Some references make him the master of the Old Forest but when Tom spoke of his relationship to the Forest, I recall him inferring he wasn't its master per se.

Who/what do you think he is the master of?

Question Details: I'm 20. O.K. I've discovered that there isn't a cure for this yet, but maybe I can discover a natural cure. Whenever I am under a great amount of stress, my apocrine glands tend to release this horrible odor. It can stink up an entire room. Gross. My doctors thought that I was mental(schizophrenic), but the fact is that they hadn't heard of this problem. I"m like a SKUNK. Why is it that people like me survived? It's a way my body tells me that I am in emotional or physical danger. When I was a few years younger I tried to commit suicide because of this. I attempted to clean and rub every part of my body with alcohol, but the odor remained. I would not wish this on my worst enemy. It is HORRIBLE to FEEL like an OUTCASTE and to be treated like your not clean. Guys think I'm beautiful, but over time when they find that I am giving off this odor, they ignore me. I don't accept others into my life anymore and do not plan to have a boyfriend in the future. It's painful.

can you spend too much time thinking and maybe understand too much? like if you really UNDERSTOOD how small we are would it make you go crazy? is that what happens to some crazy people? do we all hide from reality that much? can you open you mind to the point where it floods out and everything floods in? is it better to just not think about it? why arnt more people crazy? is it torture keeping us in this existence without a clue what we should be doin? is there 100's of dimensions everywhere and on everything but we have no idea they exist or what they "look" (feel?) like?

why doesn't this make more people insane?

is it society's job to distract with entertainment?
