Question Details: I'm 20. O.K. I've discovered that there isn't a cure for this yet, but maybe I can discover a natural cure. Whenever I am under a great amount of stress, my apocrine glands tend to release this horrible odor. It can stink up an entire room. Gross. My doctors thought that I was mental(schizophrenic), but the fact is that they hadn't heard of this problem. I"m like a SKUNK. Why is it that people like me survived? It's a way my body tells me that I am in emotional or physical danger. When I was a few years younger I tried to commit suicide because of this. I attempted to clean and rub every part of my body with alcohol, but the odor remained. I would not wish this on my worst enemy. It is HORRIBLE to FEEL like an OUTCASTE and to be treated like your not clean. Guys think I'm beautiful, but over time when they find that I am giving off this odor, they ignore me. I don't accept others into my life anymore and do not plan to have a boyfriend in the future. It's painful.

When you have a problem like yours the drastic emotions have to go away, as you already know, you haven't been able to do anything about the problem anyway... Why fight it?
And now you are thinking what could I possibly know about your situation.... Well, nothing for sure except, you just told me about it. And, I have an answer for you.

You need to stop the complaining, it lends itself to helping you feel like an outcast and probably makes you look like an outcast. The best you can do, is be the best you can be. Never stop trying, always put your best foot forward and learn everything you can from top to bottom. If your disease has no cure, find out why. If nothing else, it will make it easier to explain to some of us more ignorant humans. But giving up is useless, it make you useless and things you do useless.

Nothing is more true than the old saying about stinking thinking in your case. Your feelings about yourself make things worse because you say so... So, stop it! Get a grip.

Start a new policy by telling people that; if they want to be your friend they have to accept this fact about you, if not, you won't hate them but at least you know where you both stand. If they do accept you, they need to be overly honest as your friend, insist on it. In short order two things will happen. First, you will be able to look at yourself differently, your disease will become second to your attitude which needs to happen for you. Second, and just as important as the first, if your not real careful while following the first rule you may end up with a friend! Maybe more, it's totally up to you.

There's really only two types of people in the world: The quiters and the non-quiters... Don't be a quiter, go out and let your style of living give hope to others that are not as fortunate as you.

I had a friend who was the ugliest person in the world. Many people simply ignored him or looked away, but it didn't matter, we spoke the same language and liked the same things. We both liked girls and talked about them endlessly. If he wasn't killed in Viet Nam, I'm sure he would have had a wife and a bunch of ugly kids by now. He didn't have a chance to show his life..... You do.

My daughter has the same problem. She would take showers all day long until we found that a simple detox worked. All of the odor wasn't gone but it was less noticeable. And a natural deodorant helped. We were told to go to a naturalist or herbalist and ask for a detox for the body. It was a mixture of things ( can't remember all of them). Your body type maybe different and you may need some of the same or not. You say that it is a sign of emotional or physical danger. When this odor that is effecting you, stop and listen to your body. As you learn over time how to deal with your emotions the odor may leave or be less noticeable. both of these should help you. Please don't ever give up life is to precious. Hope this helps you. Good luck

I've heard of something like this before. If it is a real smell (can others smell it?) and it smells like fish, there is a name for it but I don't know what it is. Do more research for that avenue. If it's excessive sweat, you can actually get botox injections into the armpits (and I guess other areas) that significantly reduces the sweat production. I saw that on Oprah. Otherwise, maybe find a guy that has a reduced sense of smell. There seem to be a bunch out there. This might get better as you get older. In the meantime, look for specialists. An endocrinologist sounds like a good start. Are you sure the guys ignore you because they think you smell bad? At that age, it seems like all boys ignore girls after awhile anyway. Please try to be kind to yourself. It's not your fault.

May I suggest that you go to a dermatologist and discuss the usage of Botox, yes Botox, for this glandular problem you are having. It is being used for many who suffer from profuse perspiration, and has been very successful. People who have been using that as treatment do not even need to use deodorant any longer. Please, take the time to visit with a dermatologist, they can help you with this embarrassing problem, and you will no longer have to suffer needlessly. I wish you well.

Have you prayed? I would seek God because He is bigger than any problem you could possibly have.
Also, I feel awful for you, but you have to stop feeling sorry for yourself. Focus on the things you DO have and you will begin to feel better.
Talk to a Doctor about having those glands surgically removed. Is this possible?
Find ways to reduce the stress in your life. Change your eating habits. Go organic and get plenty of exercise. I would try anything if this were happening to me. But my 1st thing would be prayer.

I wish you the best in your search for happiness.
