my teacher is asking me and i don't know what is the answer?

First of all. Columbus did not discover America, he discovered the New World in the year 1492.

In 1492 Columbus sailed across the Atlantic ocean and found land. He did not 'discover' anything. To say he did is saying that the people of the land he found didn't have any status as people, which is rather bigoted.

IN 1492 Columbus did sail the ocean blue but he DID NOT discover AMERICA. He landed on a ISLAND that he named HISPANIOLA. On NONE of his voyages did he DISCOVER AMERICA. He NEVER set foot on ANY part of the North American continent.

1492 was the year Columbus landed in America. There are many people that believe that the Chinese really "discovered" America in 1421.
