I'm sure it still needs work, but I think I'm getting closer! Any advice on stanza breaks?

How like voices
the rain sounds tonight,
like the hard whisper of prophets,
the truth of the finite
in each breaking drop.

How sobering,
to feel yourself
at the center of this:
Blossoming Death.
How strange
to be within
That which grows
within you,
and the scent is not sweet.

The whole reach of death.
The slipping of skin
the cracking of bones,
the accumulation of creases,
between
the burden of knowledge
and the terror of mystery
we, in darkness,
lie.

What words are there
for a mother who must
release her child?
She sits even now,
empty, open arms
longing to embrace
that which left them empty.

I've heard you're only supposed to concentrate on one literary agent at a time, but that seems like it would drag the process out longer than necessary. Wouldn't it be smarter to send it to a bunch of agents at once?

I think alot about things, in fact if your interested with this new idea i have, maybe you can click on my avatar and see my last question. Back to the subject, I have been thinking about the balance and nature and how people say humans disrupt this balance, but arent we also built into the balance of nature? Sure, you can argue that we mass produce our food, so we are constantly growing, no matter if there is a drought or famine. But i think that our minds are different so we would all polarize to different groups, and fight each other. I hear people say that they wish there could be world peace, but its part of nature, we are made to fight each other so we dont overproduce. Like in this video i saw about an island in the pacific. There is an airborne fungus that gets into almost ever species on the island and kills them. After the fungus kills them it spreads to the rest of the colony if its an ant. I found this fascinating because it was the balance of nature at its purest form.

I wonder what’ll happen next,
I wonder who I’ll meet.
Who will leave me behind?
Who will catch me when I face defeat?

The road is long and winding,
The end of the book not in sight.
Life continues on,
And I’m wishing with all my might.

Let me live a day longer,
Let me change someone in a good way,
I hope I’m doing things right,
Oh, how I pray.

Let my life be worth it,
Let me live, just for today.
I hope I do some good,
Oh, how I pray.

This life can be so short,
How much can we do?
When you’ll always have yourself,
There’s only so much you can lose.

I hold out my hand,
Won’t you take it?
I offer you my help,
Take it as you see fit.

I wonder how much time we have,
I wonder if it’s enough to make a change.
Maybe we’re not supposed to do it all in one lifetime,
Maybe we have to rely on others to pass on the exchange.

The road is long and winding,
The end of the book not in sight.
What if we get it all wrong?
All these things I wonder alone at night.

There’s only so much to lose,
But oh so much to gain.
I pray I can get this life right,
I’ll have to take it step by step and page by page.

on the one hand survive and on the other forward our genes?

Obviously behaviours such as suicide and infanticide are behaviours that cannot be explained, but on the whole does this sum up many of our actions?

Certainly women correcting their outward appearances in order to be more 'attractive' to a potential mate or males going on the pull etc all fit into this..

I discussed the issue with some friends and, other than the usual cliched answers, they gave some explanations namely:

1. Because of a gambler's principle which says that the richer you are the more likely you are to gamble. Therefore, people in western countries are more willing to gamble away their eternity.

2. Another gambler's principle which says that a person would much rather win a million dollars in a casino than to work for it. Therefore westerners like to think that the universe and life started just by chance.

3. Because they live in highly organized and regulated societies and it results in a psychological phenomenon that could be referred to as "beast envy". Therefore they eagerly embrace theories like evolution which IMPLY that humans are merely animals.

I think these theories have some truth in them, but I'd like to hear other explanations. But please not vain ones like "because they are more educated". That obviously has nothing to do with it.

Thanks.

You fell off the wagon, you hit your little sister, you broke a promise, you hit someone with a car, or took something that isn't yours, etc. The bad deed is done. Should the "Why you did it" be an important or mitigating factor? What's your opinion?
