you should try going to the social insurance department in your district. They should be able to tell you whether or not someone has a check or not.

You might try www.foundmoney.com . Type in their name and if they died fairly recently, it will list their name and any amounts being held. You may have prove you are/were a descendant , however. Also, I believe the Treasurer's Office in each state holds money due to relatives that they don't know how to get ahold of.
