I don't think that I being a fine art painter is motivated by a need to survive or procreate. That all artistic drive is rooted in survival and procreation is a simplistic view of the human psyche. Do we philosophies, invent, want to go to the moon all for survival and procreation? There is so much more to humanity than that. It is what separates us from the rest of the life forms on this planet.

Schopenhauer- I remember his thoughts / writings to be confusing. He was not one of my favorite philosophers. You have to constantly cross reference his books since he can say one thing in one and another in the next book.

No philosophy in itself, no religion alone, can answer what we as mortals, natured/nurtured strive to achieve. It comes from WITHIN! ohhh that looks ugly, it comes from within. Better!
