The modern generation supported by those who undermine parental authority and enact rules so that these babies get better financial support than those born within marriages. Kids no longer need parental approval and have babies as kids because many parents allow free sexual experiences amongst their kids either because they are working and don't have the energy to stop them or because they are on drugs.
So many have gone through this that our society now sees fit to support them with medicaid and other benefits so as to help the children and so it goes on and on. Eventually marriage will become a thing of the past. Society is just moving too fast and does not have time to do things the old fashionned way. Too much competition.
There may be a few that do it the old fashionned way, but that is because they come from enough affluence to support it. Those that don't are seeing that it is a waste of time to try to keep up with that old American Dream. They just have kids, get the state to support them, usually having the mother take care of them. And the father, goes off and does whatever he can to take care of himself.
The old secure career jobs go to the rich kids who come from affluence. The kids making the babies get minimum wage jobs, party with their man friends or live at a homeless shelter and make more babies with other willing participants and the mothers are happy because society has given them enough money for each child to have a decent life doing what they want to do, take care of kids. Sometimes they shack up with a new guy and have another baby by them without marrying them either.
Ain't life great in the USA?

According to Lectlaw.com, the term "Born out of wedlock" refers to a child "born of two parents who are not married at the time of birth. The illegitimate child, born in a relationship between two persons that are not married or who are not married at the time of the child's birth is called a bastard."
Wikipedia explains that "generally speaking in the United States, 'illegitimacy' has been supplanted by the concept 'born out of wedlock.' "

In the old days, "bastard"; then it became "illegitimate"; then, with Diana Ross and the Supremes, "love child". No matter what, they should be called "daugher" or "son".

It just means that you weren't married when the child was born.
