Why should I try to learn about history or physics or anything if I'm just going to die? Why should I work so hard to build my mind and fill it with thoughts if it all ends in nothingness? In death?

are authors I have really enjoyed lately. I am a new fan of literature and get so much more from a story if it stimulates me intellectually. Problem is I have to understand what is being written. I love these two guys- who should I try next???

My brother already plays the guitar and he is AWESOME. I don't want to steal his "thing" but I really want to learn. I don't want to do it as a career but if I turn out to be good my parents are going to urge me to. I don't know if I should... :(

You value the life of an unborn child, when the population is rising rapidly out of control, more than you value the life of someone's relative or friend, who they have known and loved for years, someone who has established the beginning of their life, but all their hard work will be lost because of you Republicans and your goddamn president Bush...

hey guys, im in the middle of attmepting a novel (first one), wrote quite a bit already, but need a name for my main 'bad guy' - this guy is the personification of evil, a true bad apple. I have been floating around with old words for 'evil' or 'satan' - such as Ubils, also Diabolos is one I liked (old greek word) also Iblis which I belive is a islamic name for the devil.

Any suggestions - also, you never know I may end up getting published and youre suggestion will be a main character.!!!!!!

Thanks in advance.

What do you look for in a good fictional book? Like quality, description, character development, etc.
Third person or first person P.O.V.s (remember to mention which one you are talking about)
I am just curious...

I've read them all over the years including the recent installment. As i was reading the others i either forgot or overlooked the use of the name "merlin" a lot. They would say "merlins beard", "merlins pants", "in the name of merlin" so just who is/was Merlin?

Seeing as the self can be a product of environmental factors, how do we define native individuality? It's said choices are points of definition. When we come in contact with environmental influences, our personality develops, but the key term here is 'influence.' Interaction with the environment can help opening up and harnessing a potential feature that was natively present. So in that case it wouldn't be a matter of influence, at least not completely. But on the other hand, interaction with environment can install new characteristics.

So does native individuality really exist? And how do you determine what the exact limits of its territory are?

What do you all think? That's my impression. I know that people who made a difference made an impression, and were influential because they were genuine, convinced, and had a better plan, and spoke out.

But it seems to me that the most successful were flexible and allowed for the differences of others, and if not, their ideas weren't popular enough to survive them. Maybe I'm being an optimist. Is it better to be flexible and practical, or rigid and intolerant?

within many of the middle eastern/arab nations..slavery was a part of the culture for more than 2000 years....
with the beginning of islam..in order for the arabs to spread their empire further they mixed and intermarried with the established european empires that existed (byzantine...etc)..and spread themselves as far north as the slavic regions..this includes the levant as well...

slavery wasnt economically based....many of the early slaves (the europeans) were not in fact slaves..they intermarried with these women in order to take control of the region..

the africans on the other hand were used as domestic labor...this is a practice that continued in saudi arabia until the late 1960s..
my question is..within the arab world africans were traditionally in a position of servitude..however there was a huge transition..from using african slave labor to domestic servants from indonesia and many southeast asian countries...why did this happen?

Some of my friends are going to enter this beauty pageant because they received a letter in the mail. I don't know exactly what it's called. I'm guessing it's called "Miss Teen San Francisco" or whatever. Basically, they need sponsors of $500, no talent is needed, and the top 10 finalists get to go to Florida to compete in a bigger pageant. I'm just wondering if there's really such a thing as this.
