My brother already plays the guitar and he is AWESOME. I don't want to steal his "thing" but I really want to learn. I don't want to do it as a career but if I turn out to be good my parents are going to urge me to. I don't know if I should... :(

By the way, I use to play the drums but I got bored of it. I just didn't enjoy it. I don't know if that changes anything

Never hurts to to try, at the very least it's a wonderful life long hobby to have.

Don't do it for money, do it for the love of music. And you're not stealing anything, your brother doesn't own guitar playing ;)

If you really want to play, then just play :)

Ever heard of the Everly Brothers during the 1970s? They both were awesome rhythm men on the acoustic. As Jem Art recommends, start with the acoustic. It matters not that your brother also plays acoustic. It might be advantageous for both of you to play an acoustic guitar.

I'm not telling you to steal his thunder, but if you think you would enjoy it, go for it! And as long as you don't flaunt it (if you get to be better than him), then you won't steal his thunder...

As for your parents urging you to go pro, let them know that you're totally not interested, and hopefully they'll be okay with that.

Anyway, if you do decide to get a guitar but don't know where to start, here's a good article on choosing a guitar. It's at www.amillionguitars.com. I hope that helps. Good luck with music!

Go for it, why not, so what if your brother plays, it's nice of you to not want to take the attention away from him, but so what, if you want to play, then play !!!!!! Maybe you'll find out that you have a real talent for it, you never know. Playing guitar has given me years of pleasure, your never bored, nor lonely, and there's always something to learn. Go for it, and good luck !!!!!!!

Just ask your brother to show you some stuff on it. Most people love it when others think they are good enough to teach them. More than likely he'd be happy to show you something.
