Lily's patronus never came up before in the first six books. But as one of her teachers and the headmaster Dumbledore would surely have known. And Snape was a friend and classmate. So when Harry is reviewing Snape's old memories, the two of them were seen discussing Snape's patronus still being the same as Lily's after all those years.

Harry dies in the chapter "The Forest Again" pg564 in the adult version and it continues into th next chapter, "King's Cross". We find out about Lily's patronus I think in "The Prisoner of Azkaban" Harry tells them his dad's was a stag and his moms was a doe. It's confirmed in "The Deathly Hallows" by Snapes patrnous.."The Prince's Tale". His patronus was for Lily, like Tonk's patronus in the HBP was for Lupin.

We didn't (until it was revealed Snape had the same as Lily), but I think we were supposed to infer that seeing as James Potter's was a stag, Lily's became a doe (like Tonks's became a werewolf). So Snape was in a bizarre way honouring James Potter: I'm sure he'd have hated to think of it like that!

I don't think it was ever mentioned, but somehow it made sense to me. I associated it with Lily from the moment Harry saw the doe in the forest (I knew it wasn't Lily's, but I thought it had something to do with her). It was kind of like Ernie's boar patronus: never before stated but not unexpected.

When Harry was viewing Snape's memories, it was revealed that both Snape and Lily's patronus was a doe (snape's was the one that led harry to the sword of Godric Gryffindor)

I'm not sure if Lily's was a doe...
I think Snape's was a doe, because, since James could turn into a stag, it would be fitting if Lily was the 'doe'. Since Snape was secretly in love with Lily (awww) that's why his Patronus was a doe.... idk if lily's was, too...

When harry and voldemort were fighting in the great hall harry explained everything voldemort had overlooked about the wands, dumbledors death, and snapes love for lilly we know traumatic experiences change the shape of a patrous snapes became a doe after the death of lilly. so many people died while they protected harry all those year waiting for him to grow up and kill voldemort.

I think it was implied when Snape showed Dumbledore in the memory and he said "After all these years?" and Snape answered with "Always", or something like that. But no, I don't remember anyone saying anything about.

Ugh, me too! I'm glad I didn't miss something. I don't know! I read the book three times searching for this. I can only think that Harry found out in the Pensieve, and it was not written. I know, it is frustrating.

We found out toward the end of DH. Obv. we could not have found out in one of the previous books that it was Snape's, because then we would know who's patronous it was that led Harry to Gryiffendor's sword.
