Some of my friends are going to enter this beauty pageant because they received a letter in the mail. I don't know exactly what it's called. I'm guessing it's called "Miss Teen San Francisco" or whatever. Basically, they need sponsors of $500, no talent is needed, and the top 10 finalists get to go to Florida to compete in a bigger pageant. I'm just wondering if there's really such a thing as this.

Most pageants DO ask for money...there are lots of expenses involved with putting on a pageant. The problem is some pageants never deliver the prizes or they are downsized and not what was promised...for example..top finalists go to Florida..is this expense paid by the pageant as one of the prizes for making top ten?? There are a couple of legitimate state pageants w/ nationals in FL..One of them is America's National Teenager...they send out letters to girls that have good scholastic achievement and are involved in school and community events..they hold state pageants. My memory of this though was only the top person went on to nationals in FL...Look through your info they sent you, visit their website and ask questions...call the director and ask things that you might be wondering...there are lots of great pageants out there, but there are a few that want to make a quick buck and then run.

The top 10 finalists get their sponsorship fee paid for the florida pageant (which is called "cities of america"), and the winner gets all expenses paid for that national pageant. Almost ALL pageants require a sponsorship fee to help pay for costs and for prizes - the thing to worry about is if they are asking you to pay not an overall fee, but say, a fee for a training class, which is required, and after which you MIGHT get in, or something along those lines.

Nationals, Inc. checks out with the Better Business Bureau, and has a pretty good track record with them.

Also, one of my friends participated in their pageant a couple years ago, and thought it was a good experience.

Another thing I would like to point out - if you look up the coordinators online, you find multiple pageants in multiple cities, from multiple years, all of which also mention the Cities of America pageant.

Finally, if you look at the hotel at which they claim the cities of america pageant will be, it has a room reserved specifically for that pageant in December.

Don't worry so much about your friends - there's a reason it's a sponsor fee, not a "write us a check!" type of thing.

go to bbb.org and see if there is any information on
Miss Teen San Francisco.

If you have never heard of it, it is probably a scam.

Tell your friends to check it out carefully (bbb.org) before they ask friends and family to sponsor them.

Legitimate Pagents NEVER, NEVER ask for money to be sponsored in a pagent.

SCAM ALERT!
