We change as time goes by, aiming for our visions of perfection. Yet, deep inside, we're still the same. Is that true?

What is the title of the novel about a girl who was rafting down-river with her family when she met a man doing the same. After reaching a settlement, they eloped and started an indigo plantation where the man got his black slave mistress pregnant and the wife also had a child. While the wife was in labor, the slave woman put the legs of the bed in buckets of water to keep ants from climbing into the bed. The couple didn't speak to each other for many year and the book ended after they had grown old and the wife was on her death bed.

ok so i was reading OotP and i am at the part where Harry notices the threshals. Because I have read it before, i know that one can only see the threashals if one has witnessed a death.
but Harry never actually witnessed a death.
when his parents were murdered, he was in his cradle and unable to see it happen.
when Cedric was murdered, Harry's eyes were closed. He opened his eyes to find Cedric lying spread-eagle on the ground.
So how can he see the Threshals??

I am a teen at the age of 15 that works with the acting business. I started a year ago by going to an acting school. I have an agent for acting in commercials/film with Commercials Unlimited. My modeling agent is KSA. Since I recently started I've never been in a commercial but I've been to two auditions. I wanted to know some tips that I need to completely catch the director's interest in me. I also wanted my agent to call me more for more auditions because he barely calls me. What should I do? Should I call him and remind him that I am available? I also want to know how many auditions on average would I have to go to before I book one? I have been taking this very seriously but I can't get anywhere when my agent is not even calling much. I am an asian, I don't know if there are less auditions for them but please answer. Thanks much.

Deep I know but Hypothetically. If you took away the need for money, meaning everyone would have the same things.......... and everyone worked to the benefit of developing the human race and their own personal development of knowledge etc, with no worry of paying bills/living. How would you do it........?? Could it work...?? If it worked what kind of a world would we live in...?? Example of which is - There would be no limitation to the development of a cure for cancer as there would be no limitations of funding to consider. Therefore a cure would be found quicker because they wouldn't have to wait for the next cheque......!!!!!

I would like to broaden the range of books i read as I am on a quest to make myself more intelligent.
At the moment I find myself only reading works of fiction.
Could anyone recoment to me some non-fiction books that would be interesting.
Preferably away from science etc.
History or Religion is welcome.

In my Sociology class we were talkin about races and stuff and my professor said that Caucasian people have a distinct advantage in every aspect of their life in the United States. She is a Caucasian herself and she said "Especially in the dating world and the nightlife...they are the superior ones"

I couldn't exactly comprehend what she meant

Most of my classmates seemed to agree (about 23 outta 30 of us thru a show of hands by her statement)

IS that somewhat true? How??

Have you tried the newest Tony Robbins CDs? Sorry, I don't remember the name.
What did you think? Were they better, worse, the same, as his previous courses? Did they provide much new material?
I'd like to hear whatever comments you would have. Thanks.

"Seven Deadly Wonders" Matthew Reilly. It reads about as fast as the da vinci code but is more Indiana Jonesish. Any one read it?

I'm wondering for a story i'm writing if it copyright infringement or just plain wrong to mention in my story another author or book or even a song? like if my story deals with vampires is it wrong for a character to ask "so your not like anne rice's vampires, right?" do you get what i mean?

I could natter on here about my thoughts in the matter, but I think it will yield me more if I just read your answers to my question without trying to 'clarify' the question further, constraining you to answer a question made perhaps too narrow by my mistaken assumptions as to what constitutes 'clarification' .

Perhaps I'll think better thoughts after you tell me yours.

I have the Latin version and I'm trying to check my translation, but my American English version is the Scholastic form, and it's not matching up with my translation. I think this is because the Latin translator used a UK/Bloomsbury book. If someone could post the opening paragraph, that would help me figure out if this is the problem. If it is the problem, looks like I'll be ordering the Bloomsbury versions of the Potter series!
