What is the title of the novel about a girl who was rafting down-river with her family when she met a man doing the same. After reaching a settlement, they eloped and started an indigo plantation where the man got his black slave mistress pregnant and the wife also had a child. While the wife was in labor, the slave woman put the legs of the bed in buckets of water to keep ants from climbing into the bed. The couple didn't speak to each other for many year and the book ended after they had grown old and the wife was on her death bed.

It is a whole trilogy of books-called the Plantation Trilogy. The books are "Deep Summer", "The Handsome Road" and "This side of Glory". The author is Gwen Bristow. Good luck!
