Camera either comes with a non-removable rechargeable battery inside (like an iPod) or ones you can take out.

For the non-removable (not too many) you should get a charge plug (one of those little black brick plugs).

Most of the cameras that have special removable batteries (not AA) you do the same thing - the camera can be plugged in to charge the battery inside the camera. For a whole lot more money, you can get extra batteries and maybe an external charger. More convenient - just carry around apsare, fully charged battery for when needed - but more stuff to take on vacation. For one of my older cameras, I had a spare abttery so it was a pain - charge one,.swap it, charge the other. i would have to get up in the middle of the night because it took 5 hours for each one.

I prefer AA's because they are cheaper and easier to manage. I have bought a charger on vacation twice now (one blew up with 240V, the other I forgot to bring) and they were cheaper than a proprietary battery alone would have cost for my old camera. (NP-80 $69; 4ea AA and charger, $40; set of 4 AA's, $10 ).

Cameras that take AA don't usually allow for in-camera charging because there are different types of AA's and charging the wrong ones the wrong way (or trying to charge disposables) could damage the camera. You need an external charger unit. Hint - get one that has a light showing when charging is complete.

I have a NKON COOLPIX right now and it takes AA batteries but have had others over the years and found that this is the best way to go. When I got my first one (a POLAROID @ 810k pixels), the batteries ran out after taking about 20 pics.

I RAN to Radio Shack (Although there are other places) and bought rechargeable batteries and a re-charger.

If you're looking for a camera, I would suggest looking for one that takes rechargeable AA batteries rather than relying on their battery system and their charger. If you're out and about and your batteries die and you don't have a place to recharge, you're outta luck.

If your camera takes AA's, you can carry extra re-charged batteries OR as a last resort, you can buy a couple of AA's at just about any store.

I have a Sony Cybershot that I just plug the charger into, and it charges the battery while it's in the camera.

i think now adays every camera is having rechargable batteries that have to be charged when they are down. there are desktop chargers for batteries available in markets and online on many websites like Wireox.

I have a Kodak easy share. I bought it with the charging dock, so it came with a rechargeable battery. But if you don't buy the whole set you have to buy the battery seperate.
