I ask this question yesterday but it was removed. I’m not sure why...but I'm going to ask again just in case someone at YA made a mistake???? There was no violation stated. I emailed them but no one responded, so I'm assuming it was a mistake. So the question is above. There’s 2 L's where the * are...

Alright, first of all I am a twenty year old college student. I live away from home in an off campus apartment. I live in a relatively small city, but I can't help but notice an increase in crime rate. Especially break-ins and other crimes of that nature. A few weeks ago two students were held at gunpoint a few blocks from my apartment. What would be the best option for me when it comes to personal defense? I am and always have been a hunter so I am familiar with shotguns and rifles. I've never shot a pistol but thought about purchasing one and taking a training couse next year when I turn 21. Another option for me would be to purchase a home defense shotgun. One that is tailored specifically for close quarters combat. A third and cheapest option would be to go home and get the youth model 20 gauge that I used when I was younger and load it up with oo buckshot. I own two 12 gauge shotguns, but the length on the barrels make them ideal for duck hunting, not home defense.

I'll give you the "Readers Digest" version: My Dad's rich, I'm not. He doesn't really care about me, and I don't really care about him. We still exchange xmas presents just to keep up appearances. Every year all he does is send me $200, and I kill myself trying to come up with something, ANYTHING that isn't the same old crap I get him every year (booze, cigars, last year, if I recall correctly, I got him Omaha steaks). I haven't the care or the energy to try anymore. Anyone have any ideas?

He's retired so he doesn't need a tie or anything like that.
And a picture of me is out of the question because despite how many pictures my sister and I have given him over the years (school, my wedding and such) he hasn't put one up in his house. He only has pictures of himself and wife #3.

I should just send him a check for $200, shouldn't I? That would be funny.

Here's the deal. All of my grandparents have diabetes, most of my aunts and uncles have it, some of my cousins have it. Type 1 and Type 2. Neither of my parents have diabetes yet.

For the last month I have felt weird. I'm constantly thirsty no matter how much I drink I'm still thirtsy. I'm hungry all the time. I urinate more often then most. Sometimes my vision gets fuzzy, when that happens I get REALLY sleepy and just don't feel right. I've also started sweating at night while I'm asleep. I sweat so much that the sheets are soaked. I feel tired and run down all the time.

In the past when I've gotten fasting blood work done my sugars have been fine. (On the low side of normal.)

Did this happen to anyone who was diagnosed with diabetes? What were your signs/symptoms? Does this even sound like it could be diabetes?

Yes, I know only a doctor can tell me if it's diabetes or not. Just looking for insight and advice.

Paideia

"In ancient Greek, the word Paideia means "education" or "instruction." Paideia was "the process of educating man into his true form, the real and genuine human nature."[1]

Since self-government was important to the Greeks, Paideia combined with ethos (habits) made a man good and made him capable as a citizen or a king.[2] This education was not about learning a trade or an art, which the Greeks called banausos, and was a mechanical task unworthy of a learned citizen, but was about training for liberty (freedom) and nobility (The Beautiful). Paideia is the cultural heritage that is continued through the generations."

When you give advice in Marriage/Divorce, do you tell them how you feel all of the time? Do you tell them what they want to hear?

I met a guy 2 years ago on an internet dating site. We haven't met yet, but I fell like I know him so well. We talk a few time a week. He wants to meet me. Go on a date with some friends so I feel more comfortable.
I just don't know what I should do. He's told me that he really care about me even though he doesn't know me as well as he wishes he could. We also talk on the phone. We talked for 5 hours the day before I had a plane flight, I was leaving town for Christmas. He leaves me cute messages, and calls me his girl. I'm happy when I talk to him, on the computer or the phone.
I'm worried that I may like him too much though. If i do meet him, I don't even know what I'd say. I'm scared, I feel so close to him. He told me he knew he was falling for me. It was sweet.
I'm just a little confused with what I should do about it.
I just want to know what you would tell me to do if you were my friend.

I was using my dining room table as an ironing board with only a towel to protect it, and I was using the steam setting. This, of course, ruined the finish on my table in that area. It didn't hurt the wood, but rather just the lacquer finish. Is there anyway to repair this without stripping, sanding and refinishing the whole table. This is a light wood table with no stain.

Which one do you recommend? Do you recommend either of them? Have any other suggestions about a different Russian Dictionary I should check out? Thanks!

Scientists have taken a gene from a flounder (a type of fish) and combined it with tomato gene to make a new species of tomato that is more tolerant of cold weather. Many people are against bioengineered food. Why do you think that is?

My ex-stepmom (she was my stepmom for 17 years from the time I was 1 until I was 18 and is like a second mom to me) just lost her new husband (together for just over 5 years) yesterday to a sudden heartattack. She's now a widow at age 41. I don't know what to say to her. I haven't called because I'm scared to. I have no idea what I can say to let her know how sorry I am. Any insight? Thank you.
