Paideia

"In ancient Greek, the word Paideia means "education" or "instruction." Paideia was "the process of educating man into his true form, the real and genuine human nature."[1]

Since self-government was important to the Greeks, Paideia combined with ethos (habits) made a man good and made him capable as a citizen or a king.[2] This education was not about learning a trade or an art, which the Greeks called banausos, and was a mechanical task unworthy of a learned citizen, but was about training for liberty (freedom) and nobility (The Beautiful). Paideia is the cultural heritage that is continued through the generations."

It's really pretty for a baby girl. It's a really unique name, and I think having an original name that's not "out there" is really nice. I honestly think it's a nice name. It's pretty, feminine and relates to your culture too.

Another baby name you may like is Athena. Athena was the Greek goddess of wisdom, and is one of my favourite baby names :)

Gratz on your baby!

I like the meaning of this, but it seems complicated for a name and I cant picture calling a kid this and I am Greek.
It would make for a meaningful middle name.

I think there are other great names that have more simple meanings that are associated with principles of democracy.
Erini -Peace
Alethia - Truth
Eleftheria - F Freedom or liberty
Eleftherios - M Freedom or liberty
Elpida - Hope
Agape - Love
Rena - Peace
Sophia - Wisdom
Salome - Peace

Good Luck

While I can usually get behind an unusual name with roots, this one doesn't work for me. Paideia doesn't have a particuarly appealing sound to my ear, and I can't imagine a nickname for it, either.

The meaning is nice, but not enough to make this choice work.

Great meaning behind the name, however it is a tough one to to say...I don't think I know how to pronounce it properly and that will cause your child a lot of grief. Perhaps shorten it or make it a middle name.

A lifetime of correcting people for saying it wrong. Give the kid a break. Its tough enough having a difficult last name. Even if they luck up and say it right, they will definitely muff the spelling.

It certainly has an interesting historical background. How do you pronounce it?

Go with it if you like it.

My opinion? Interesting. It could definitely grow on someone.

It has beautiful history but unless you educate every single person you meet, it's just another made-up sounding name.

yuck. You can't always pick a name for it's meaning because most people aren't gonna know and you can't explain it to everyone.
