Slope is important it is a rate of change. It helps you know that if some natural occurence remains constant you will know what values to expect in the future. There are many examples. If you are working for example, let's say you make 10 $ an hour. Your total money earned would be a function of time. Time is how many hours you have worked and 10 would be your slope.

Slope is "math-speak" of describing the rate of change of something. Rate of change is frequently important because is allows a prediction of how much of a particular quantity there will be at some time in the future, and makes planning possible.

An example that most people are generally concerned about is money. Income is a positive rate of change of the amount of money a person has use of. Generally we like this to be high. Expenses are a negative rate of change of the money, (best kept low). But if income equals expenses then the net slope is zero, and the amount of money one has is unchanging,

BTW, the horizontal axis for this example is time.

I hope this was helpful in some way.

Slope is extremely important in the design and construction of highways and roads. For example, the crown slope across a typical highway allows the water from a rainfall to leave the surface of the cart-way, to reduce the amount of water on the road, to lessen the danger from hydroplaning and improve the speed of travel. Super-elevation is also important when designing curves in the highway. Super-elevation allows automobiles to travel around curves with a higher rate of speed as compared to a relatively flat curve. The slope in encountered in many engineering equations relating to highway design and surveying applications.

Ever walk up a hill?? That is your slope. The roof of your house is sloped. If it's flat, then it has slope zero. Stairs all have slope to enable you to go up to the next floor.

Think "rise over run" meaning how high you go up for how far you go forward, and you will see all kinds of things in life that have slopes.

Sewer lines must have slope so they don't easily back up.
Roofs should have slope in order for rain to properly drain the roof.
Flat roofs are constant problems with repairs.

Yards, swimming pools, and driveways must be sloped in order to prevent rain from draining towards the home.
