I can recall, in my lifetime, when Americans were not quite as wealthy as they are today. It seems back then that most people wanted to make the country and the world a better place to live for all people. It was a time of a dream of equality and equal opportunity for prosperity.
That dream seems to be dieing with the generation, and a new dream emerging, one that seems centered on an entirely different goal.
Americans now seem quick to abandon programs designed to help the disavantaged. They seem quick to want to "protect" their interest overseas. They seem quick to adopt policies to serve the interest of those with plenty or those who can add to the wealth of industry.
Has the success of generations passed, corrupted the American spirit? Has wealth and material possessions become the single pursuit of happiness?
