First it is very serious. Not only because it was wrong and against the law but also because you violated the trust of someone that loved you.

As for jail, I don't think larceny would be considered a jailable offense for someone your age. I assume that you will likely face corrective action, the least of which is forcing your mother to come up with the money to pay your debts.

By the way, being sorry isn't justification for what you did. You need to understand that you may also have another serious problem, gambling. To lose over $1,600 dollars gambling with someone's money is a sign that you may have an "addictive personality".

Good luck and hope things work out for you and your family. This is a hard lesson, but hopefully have will learn from it.

It depends on the judge and how the court want's to handle you. With so many horrible crimes being committed by teens many are no longer sympathetic to youthful mistakes even frivolous ones like gambling. If you are repentant to the abuse of your now decesed grandfather you need to show this by working to pay off the debt without a courtorder.

Think about this too, the money he had saved was likely supposed to help cover his funeral costs which your parents probably had to pay. So really, you need to pay your parents back for every pound you spent plus whatever the bank charges for overdraft fees.

I'm sure your mum is mortified that her baby could steal like that - especially from someone who loved and trusted you.

But, you can make things right. Your life is not over. It will just be a long long time before your family will trust you again. Trust which was once given freely will now have to be earned. And you will learn that re-earning trust is going to be one of the hardest things to do in life.

Good luck and I hope you learned something that will make you better person down the road.

Wow - morally I think the gambling sites are more culpable than you are. By law here in NY, USA any criminal record would be sealed because of your youth. I think if your family pays the money back to your granddad's estate and pays off the overdraft nothing will happen.

Credit card fraud
Underage gambling
Grand Larceny

Those are just a couple I can think of. I'm sure there are more. You will probably go to a juvenile detention center. Don't drop the soap!

I think your mom maybe be financially responsible for your actions but I would understand it if she decided to disown you. Even at 15 you should have at least an inkling of the seriousness of your actions. Instead of remorse you are only worried about the punishment.

serious, bud, where the heck are your morals and respect.
Sounds like a little time in the block will help you figure out how immature you are and how you had better change your direction, or you'll spend the rest of your life on the run and in the gutters....
Whatever the time for your crime, it will teach you a good lesson...
if you could do this to a family memeber you are supposed to love and respect, who wouldn't be on your list!!!!!!!
I hear they try 15year old like adults......

Probably not since you are young. You more than likely will get probation if you never got in trouble before. But if you screw up again during probation you will go to jail.

if it is your first offense, in all likely hood you will not go to prison. you should pay the money back and then bend over for 15 good whacks!

Depends on the laws in your country. They have amounts that are tied to the seriousness. High money value means high seriousness. Seems to me that you will need to settle it somehow.
