how honest are you with your emotions?

Honesty and emotions run hand and hand in my life, otherwise my emotions would simply run away with me.

I use my honesty to keep my emotions in check. It tells me if what I am feeling is real or not, hence; the term true emotions.

Perhaps, that is what makes me cold hearted. I feel with dispassionate honesty and that makes the hurts worse and the joys greater.

If you are honest with your emotions they will guide you to feelings so beautiful that you could cry if you are the kind to cry. I am not so I just stand there in awe.

My survival growing up (literally) depended on not demonstrating what I felt. So, many years later I'm still trying to figure out what I do feel and then what to do about what I feel. I'm getting better, I used to figure out what I felt about 2 weeks later, which is most inconvenient in a fight! Now, I'm almost to the point where I feel it at the time and sometimes then know what to do with it. =)

But, the end of the story is that they are all dead and I'm still here, so I guess that gives me the last laugh,right?

I’m not honest at all...

I was taught from a very young age...
That my emotions did not serve me well.

When my brother hit me...
I was told to be the bigger person.
And bigger people rise above their emotions...
So, now I’ve forgotten how to be Angry.

When my boyfriend died...
I was told to be strong.
And strong people rise above their emotions...
So, now I’ve forgotten how to Cry.

When my parents divorced...
I was told to be an adult.
And mature people rise above their emotions...
So, now I’ve forgotten how to Morn.

When I was sent to Catholic school...
I was told to behave.
And good girls rise above their emotions...
So, now I’ve forgotten how to Need.

So while, I look happy, agreeable, satisfied and at peace...
And I feel it just the same.
It is a conditioned response...
I was never taught that any other feeling was acceptable...

not very, not that I lie, I just keep such a low profile that I get lost in the shuffle. Too many years spent in abuse, leaves me keeping my emotions closed.
