my betta fish has black stuff (gills?) sticking out of it's gill plate. it just goes in, out, in, out....is that normal breathing? or should it appear to be not moving at all or should it not even be appearing?? please state the reliability of your knowledge. (ie, you've had bettas for however many years, you're a vet, some fish expert, etc...)

(that's not my betta btw, it's just the only pic i could find that shows clearly what i'm referring to)

I've been in a lesbian relationship for a year and half. In that we've had several small break ups and huge fights. She has even got violent with me. I have been talking to a girl for about 2 months now, and unfortunatly, she lives out of state. She really cares about me to the point that she is willing to leave her state to move here to be with me. I havent spoken to her in over 2 weeks now because of our work schedules have been all screwy. Since officially we are not dating I have been with other girls. I met a girl last night that I like, but yet again she lives not out of state but a few hours aways from me (7 hours to be specific).
The girl that I have been talking to will be down the day after my birthday to spend time with me. Should I continue to live this way? I mean I dont want her to move down here in vain. Whats the correct course of action I should take in this matter?

I know this sounds crazy but after reading Eat, Pray, Love, I have been obsessed with living a peaeful life that involves God. I would like to meditate but have no idea where to start. In the book, she says 'Hamsa' which means, 'I am that'. I would like to know if anyone knows the others ie. chants with verses and where I could fidn them. As well as a standard method to chanting meditation.
Please no stupid answers, I am very serious about this.

... what kind of blanket have you found -in your experience- that provides the most warmth and comfort on a freezing cold night? I have a friend who is fighting cancer, and she gets so cold at night. She mostly has thin throws for covers, and I'd love to get her a really nice big, warm blanket, even if I have to buy it online. We live in the south, so there aren't many choices, much less, needs, for warm blankets here.

Ok so I snowboard at mountain creek in new jersey. Its my first time. Theres the bunny slope lol and then the other mountains. The other mountains are all a lot higher but the problem is this. I dont know if I am just scared and am exagerating what will happen to me, if Im afriad of heights or if im just not experianced yet. Should I go a few more times and get my stops balance and turns good? Or am I ready and I am just to scarred and I am making it worse than it already is?

I'm only 15, and I started a job at McDonalds. When I was hired I never asked what the wage was (I didn't care, minimum wage would have been fine). All the people I know that work there (about 8 people) get payed either $6.50 or $6.75. But when I got my first pay check my wage was $8.25 and hour! I have a friend that's worked there for over a year and still only gets payed $8.05. Is this a mistake, or do they just really like me? Can they 6 months down the road change it and then want the difference? We never settled on a wage when I was hired, should I just assume $8.25 is correct?

"Where do babies come from."

I am pregnant and I went to a Christmas party tonight where my professor's 5 year old daughter asked me how the baby got in my belly. I told her to ask her mom, but it made me think of a situation with my younger sister that made me chuckle. My little sister is 14 years younger than I am. I remember when she asked my mom, "where do babies come from?" Mom said, "Daddy plants a seed in mommy and then the baby grows in mommy's belly." A few weeks later my sister (who was about 5 at the time) went up to mommy and said "Mommy, daddy and I have been talking. We want another baby so I am going to hold you down and daddy will plant his seed."

Being an expectant parent, I am not sure how I will answer that question. What did you tell your child when they asked you where babies come from? Did you give them the "real" answer, perhaps a watered down version, or maybe a plain old fictitious answer (eg. the stork brings them)? What was their response?

Since the last light snowfall (8 days ago) there has been a growing wet spot on my and my neighbors sidewalk, wondering if it is an issue? The only similarity is that we both have trees in the front of our property. We live in southern NY, Queens County and this has never been an issue during other months.
