Since the last light snowfall (8 days ago) there has been a growing wet spot on my and my neighbors sidewalk, wondering if it is an issue? The only similarity is that we both have trees in the front of our property. We live in southern NY, Queens County and this has never been an issue during other months.

From the pictures you should call your water company. The water company should check where leak is coming from. The pictures indicate an active water penetration rather than a passive one. The area in the street next to the stains are dry. Unfortunately, it most likely could be the valve that connects your house to the city water failed. Typically this valve is the homeowners responsibility. Good luck.

Concrete is better because you can go faster because more energy is transfered from your leg to the ground. I enjoy gettin out in 4:40 for a first mile on sidewalks and kickin home in 2:00 flat for the last half mile of a 4 or 5 mile hard run.

Unless you know for sure whether you have a pipe that runs under the walk, leave it alone. You could call a plumber, they have an instrument for checking this but, your going to pay.

yes, I would think it was somewhere along the lines more of something like a broken sprinkler line. If you have a sprinkler system this can be a bad thing, especially if you did not blow out the system and it has gotten cold enough to freeze.

You should contact your local water supply company. If the cold has broken a water pipe, it's going to get worse.

I'm no expert, but I believe that you should consider it an issue. Could you have a busted water main? I would consult your city chamber of commerce.
