... what kind of blanket have you found -in your experience- that provides the most warmth and comfort on a freezing cold night? I have a friend who is fighting cancer, and she gets so cold at night. She mostly has thin throws for covers, and I'd love to get her a really nice big, warm blanket, even if I have to buy it online. We live in the south, so there aren't many choices, much less, needs, for warm blankets here.

Thanks for your help!!

Wow! All of you have great suggestions! I looked into the down comforters, and those definitely are what I would like to get... but I just don't have the money right now. Maybe, if I can pick up some overtime... meanwhile, I have to pick a best answer. Wish I could give you all ten points for the great suggestions and for making me remember cold winters when I lived up north. *sigh*

In my personal opinion, I love a down comforter with flannel sheets on a COLD Western New York(think buffalo) nights. If you are looking for something else a MicroFleece would be great too... try target.com

We live in northern Wisconsin and our choice of covers is electric blanket, turned on for about 20 minutes before bedtime, then turned off when we get in. On top of that is the down blanket that seems to be so popular , it works!! We remodeled several years ago and the only heat source comes from a duct up the stairwell to our room. The air might be cold but the bed is toasty warm.
Best wishes to your friend as she endures this nasty condition.

Those warming blinkets are good. They are thin...but they warm themselves up so they became the same thing as a huge expensive down comforter.

A down comforter works best..if money is not a problem...they tend to start at 150 bucks and go up depending on size.

Flece is also a good option...that's what's around me right now.

I'm going to agree with the others and say a down comfortor. I have an awesome one that is covered with suede on one side- its sooo warm and cozy. I bought mine at Linens n Things 2 years ago. Try there online or Bed Bath and Beyond. They'll probably ship it right to her door. Flannel sheets are really warm too. This combo would be great!

Good luck- you'll find it.

I agree with everyone. Especially the person who said you're a good friend. An alternative to down is a down alternative duvet. They're not as warm, but some people don't want feathers.

Merry Christmas to you!

An eiderdown or duvet filled with feathers is warmer than any blanket. Go for one with 14+ Togs.
