Why even bother engaging in dialog if you get bombed no matter what anyway?

But let me say this: It is like a foreign nation bombing Los Angeles because of a gangster problem...

Anyway... I'm not a practicing Muslim (I'm Atheist), though I come from a family thats embarrassingly Islamic... sometimes I think it is no wonder they get bombed... they just can't keep their mouths shut and accept that this is not their world...

I am only 18 but I have horribly constant fears of dying. I have had these thoughts since I was even younger, around 12. They have become increasingly worse, I think about it everyday. I get a strange feeling in the pit of my stomach everytime I think about it. I am scared I will wake up and my parents will be dead. That or I just won't wake up one day. I have tried thinking of other things, focusing on life, but it just doesn't work. I am a happy person in general which makes this strange to me. I just can't shake the feeling no matter what I do. Should I get help? I'm scared to tell my parents because they may think I am making things up for attention.

I am aware that the sun looks yellow from earth due to the atmospheric scattering of short wavelength (blue) light - the same reason that the daytime sky is blue. I am also aware that from space, where this effect does not occur, the sun appears white.

[a] Why, then, do the stars appear white when viewed through earth’s atmosphere? I understand that from such distances, the little bit of blue light that would be scattered wouldn’t light the nighttime sky or make it appear blue in color. But shouldn’t the little bit of starlight that passes through the atmosphere be yellowed like sunlight?

[b] Also, since twinkling of stars is an atmospheric effect like the shimmering mirages on the desert or those over hot asphalt - worse the warmer the night and the more active the atmosphere - why doesn’t the midday sun twinkle or shimmer when seen through our warm daytime atmosphere? Even low on the horizon when it is red and ditorted, it's still not "twinkling." Why just distant stars?

Or would it be more ethical to let kids decide their own religion once they're old enough? forcing your kid to go to church with you is exactly the same as brainwashing... I don't think you should choose a religion until you've studied them all and made an educated decision.

Than things going on in the word that could potentially affect our lives or the lives of others?

Do you think that is a warning sign that our society is slowly deteriorating and that in the future the Societies of "Free" countries will be dictated by a small handful of wealthy. I.e. Similar to that England and France in the 1700s thru late 1800s?

how do you explain the well laid out lineage of jesus' bloodline from king david down to jesus from both parents, yet nobody knows what year, let alone what day jesus was born? if there were records maintained as well as christians claim wouldn't there be some date associated with the birth of jesus as well. certainly any system dedicated to accurately keeping track of family lineage would make sure to list the date and location of each ancestor's birth. yet in the bible, all we have is more or less just a list of names. what seems even more out of place is the ability in the old testament to keep track of the lineage of adam and eve's decendants and their ages, considering this occurred 3000-4000 years before the birth of jesus. what gives?

The standard label for those who accept the anthropogenic global warming (AGW) theory has become 'Alarmists'.

Reading a review of a new book (Six Degrees: Our Future on a Hotter Planet) on RealClimate, the issue was raised as to whether 'Alarming' is a more appropriate label than 'Alarmist'.

http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2007/11/six-degrees/

Is someone who makes alarming predictions automatically an alarmist? For example, is a doctor who tells you that smoking is increasing your chances of contracting lung cancer by a certain percentage an alarmist?

It seems to me that 'Alarmist' is an appropriate label for someone who is intentionally inflating the dangers of a risk like global climate change. This would not be applicable to anthropogenic global warming. Whether or not you believe the science, the evidence does indicate that global warming poses potentially alarming dangers.

What do you think about the labels 'Alarmism' vs. 'Alarming' in this context?
