Perhaps your dad doesn't know about the other dad? Or she could be keeping you from potential harm. Either way, once you are 18 you have every right to all aspects of your life. If you sit down and calmly and rationally speak to your mother, maybe she'll open up. You may not be ready to hear all the facts even if you think you are. Acting mature and responsibly is key here....if you ever want to find out anything. Your best bet is the Department of Vital Statistics in the state you were born. What state is fox island in?

Start with obtaining a copy of your birth certificate.Odds are, your fathers name is on it.If your mom won't let you see your real one, then obtain one from the state where you were born.Usually, those come from the state department of vital statistitics, and are usually less than 20 bucks a copy.

You might have to wait until you're 18 to get a copy of your birth certificate without your mom's signature but I would try that.

Try going online to research your family tree, they should have something. Also tell your mom if she didnt want you to try to find out who your bio dad is, and wanted you to act as if your step dad is your real dad from now on, she should have kept her big mouth shut, now SHE (your mom0 has opened pandora's box and will pay the penalty.
