Here are a couple of myths I've heard from atheists:

1) The concept of Satan differs drastically from Judiasm and it evolved over time.

The concept of Satan did not evolve over time. Just because Jews do not believe in the same version of Satan does NOT mean that it evolved over time. There is plenty of evidence to actually support the exact opposite. Jews once believed in the same idea of Satan that we do but they fell away.

2) The epic of Gilgamesh records a story about a man being saved in a big flood and just because this supposedly predates Judiasm, this automatically means the story in the Bible borrowed form Sumerian legends.

This is not true. It was actually the other way around. If anything, it actually supports the truth of the Bible because if a world wide flood did happen, you would expect to finds legends ALL over the world and that is EXACTLY what you find.

What do you think?

Hi, recently my gum near the front of my teeth has swelled up a little is very noticable and annoying. Whenever I brush/floss near it, it bleeds and I am worried. Is this something to be worried about or will it heal on its own?

Picture of the problem:

Do you think if you wore high heels to a job interview, that it would increase your chances of getting the job? My friend said she read a study that says this is very true.

For anyone who has studied or even read up on Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Pythagoras up to modern philosophers, do you feel their ideas clash with your religion or do you think the concepts are compatable?

For the non-religious: would you say ideas about ethics and morals can be adequately obtained from philosphy rather than religious doctrine?

He could transubstantiate it after putting it together and BAM you got a Jesus.

Wouldn't that be a better use of the concept than eating him?

Ok, every time I drive home I pass by a near cliff...and almost every time I approach this cliff I get an intense emotion to drive off of it. I'm not crazy, and I'm garenteed I won't ever do a thing like that, but I don't know...its a weird feeling.

"Gullible" would be the obvious answer, but what about someone who's very logical and very careful about what he believes who buys into some theories to the point that it affects his lifestyle? What is it that causes this?

The only thing that I can think of is that they can't accept that some things are just flukes or considences. They have to see a reason behind everything.

I have been pondering this question. When I started here I would have said emphatically no. However I have to confess to a bit of confusion now. The Bible says if we believe in our heart and confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord we shall be saved. Mormons and JW's freely admit Jesus is Lord. That He is the reason they are saved. Yes their doctrines are different from what I would call mainstream Christianity. But does the doctrine make them not a Christian? We see Jesus different. I see Him as part of the trinity. Mormons say He is a separate God. JW's say he is Michael and the Son of God but not God. Does this matter? Or is the important thing that we all believe He is Lord and saves us?

I would really love some thoughtful answers and not just they are not Christian comments.

Democrats do not want to raise taxes on people in the middle class and lower, I seriously doubt that those of you on Yahoo make more than two million dollars a year.

Most of you would get a tax cut and more tax credits and would benefit from a Democratic President, But you've bought the lie that Dems just want to raise YOUR taxes., it's not true.

SO why do you belive it? And who tells you this?
