Ok, every time I drive home I pass by a near cliff...and almost every time I approach this cliff I get an intense emotion to drive off of it. I'm not crazy, and I'm garenteed I won't ever do a thing like that, but I don't know...its a weird feeling.

I think it would be normal for someone who is being triggered by that scene. For some reason it might be reminding you (unconsciously perhaps) of something negative, and it gives you this fear or "desire" to drive off it.

Sometimes people have unconscious desires to die, to end it all, when they become overwhelmed with a situation in life.

I have had that feeling before too. Mine was whenever I saw a concrete center divider that creates a Y in the road I would get the urge to drive into it just to see what happens. Or if I was on the edge of a tall building, I would look over and envision myself falling over.

Are you depressed? Have you been depressed? Ever on any meds? These can trigger emotions and feelings like this also.
There might be some underlying cause or emotion surpressed or triggered whenever you go by this cliff. If you go to a dr, go to a shrink. Just make sure that you dont do anything that is harmful and if you get the feeling that you might, talk to someone.

Ummm, hon. I don't think that's normal. When I drive near a cliff I try to hug the other side of the road. Umm, were you having these feelings when I was in the car with you? Bc next time, I'm driving. ☺

Yes, it is normal. Its called an "intrusive thought," meaning it barges its way into your consciousness without being wanted. These thoughts rarely make any sense, and often it is hard to figure out what if anything they are related to. I have had similar thoughts myself at times and I am not an impulsive person. They feel really weird, so I just acknowledge them and dismiss them.

One theory about intrusive thoughts is that they represent something we fear, e.g. losing control, or being killed in an auto accident, perhaps by falling asleep at the wheel or becoming distracted. Healthy people learn to deal with these thoughts by dismissing them and getting on with their business.

So just tell yourself that you certainly will not drive off the cliff, because you are completely in control. You are in the "driver's seat."

You have nothing to fear from these thoughts. They are just weird unwelcome visitors.

Almost everyone has that feeling of "what if." Your just siking yourself up to get a little excitement. It would be a different story if you would really do such a thing, but most people don't. Some of these thoughts are really morbid or thoughts of death of any kind. It's a natural part of life and it's the part of life 99% of us fear. Your just putting a little fear into yourself, it's totally normal.

I have something similar, only it's a curve I take just after I get off the highway. I keep wanting to see if I can take it at 60 mph... But like you said, I wouldn't ever do it. I think it's just the excitement that comes when you think of doing something that dangerous.

I hope not, because those thoughts occur to me and I think I am very rational, land Ever headed. I would not ever do such a horrible thing but the thought creeps in.

i agree you're not crazy. i think there is just an adrenaline rush thinking what if. and wondering how the people around you in life would react if you were gone. have you ever thought about what it would be like if you disapeered out of the blue? not like kidnapped...just got up and walked out of your own life.....
i think the mystery of the unknown is what is tantalizing you more than death

why do people skydive if not that they are tempting death. They are showing that they are in control or think they are of their own mortality. when you think about going over the cliff you are mentally saying I have control over my life and that is emotionally healthy.

well you can find positive in it...it can be your intuition giving you this knowledge for some sort of future event in your life...who knows? maybe you will have to face a circumstance when this thought will help you through?

Good Luck :)
