What vivid memories of the war stay with you? Either fighting the war, or "serving" on the home front. "They also serve who stand and wait"!

My wife's older brother is a proud Viet Nam veteran. He is a sadder but wiser man after seeing war, and sort of shell shocked from experiencing it. He's bitter that Americans are so ungreatful!

Their dad fought in WWII, and spent time in a prisoner of war camp.

He ate turnips every meal...and never wanted to taste a turnip ever again after the war!!!

My mom was a WWII orphan. Her mom & dad, MY grandparents were murdered by the Nazis.

Why did Voldemort hide the diadem horcrux in the Room of Requirement? The reason in the book is that Voldemort was so arrogant and convinced of his own capacities that he thought that he alone knew about the Room, that nobody else would be able to find it. But when Harry hides his potions book there, he sees the Room full of junk (he even sees the tiara). So I expect that Voldemort saw the same thing when he went in to hide the diadem. So how could he think that nobody had been in there before him? And I just can´t understand that Lord Voldemort would leave a piece of his own precious soul in a room full of trash (especially other people's trash)! Personally, I thought the horcrux was hidden in the Chamber of Secrets, where nobody else could enter, although I have to admit that it would be harder for him to get in and out of there undetected in the limited time he had when he went to Hogwarts to ask Dumbledore for the job. Opinions, please! Thank you!

I've had to move back home after university because I'm broke and trying to find a job but my parents are both very abusive towards me. They think giving me a roof over my head gives them free rein to say what they like and do what they like towards me, verbally or physically, especially when they're drunk (they both have drinking problems). Last night was the worst, they both were drinking and woke me up at 3am to have a go at me for no reason apart from they were drunk. I can't afford to get a place of my own yet but they are both really upsetting me and causing a lot of stress. I have no family or friends in the area I can go to. Do I bite my tongue till I can afford to leave or do I get out now? Any suggestions much appreciated, I'm at my wits end and I don't know what to do.

It is amazing and sad that the people of this country continue to vote, even though the majority of this country know that politicians lie in order for their party to gain power.

With their empty promises and lies, once in power the people of this country are no longer of importance, the referendum promised by a party once thought to be the People's party are just the same as the rest.

The three gangs of politicians who claim Parliament has their own, spend time jeering and poking fun at each other, even daring to sleep in full view of the country on TV.

Having once again sent brave soldiers to a war which has been proven was based on lies yet again, when will the people of this country opened their eyes.

If the people who become politicians had respect for the people they would not lie, it is not time for change and give power back to the people, and make it a duty as a politician to serve the people and were lies lead to death prison most surely follow, and were lies for political gain or personal gain removal from political life period.

My mother is over $20,000 in debt due to impulse buys and necessary home repairs. She has 3 credit cards and had things paid off or nearly so until the repairs came up. She owns her own home but may lose it due to the debt.

What are the pros and cons of debt consolidation? Which places are legitimate if we decide to go that route? (I'm helping her look into various avenues.) Do they charge for their sevices or are they free? How do they work?

Any tips on preventing this kind of thing from happening in the future? She does cancel cards as she gets them paid off since she doesn't want to be more in debt.

I think if god exists, his plan might be something like this:
create earth, provide sustenence for man, make man, give him knowledge, give him a set of rules, and move on to something else. If he is "our father", and when we are in "his house", we go over the set of rules he gave us (the bible), wouldnt he want us to leave the house and be on our own eventually? What do you think?
