Because people are largely taken in by the falsehood that the world is going to end in the next 20 years...which is what environmentalists were telling us 30 years ago, too.

I guess its largely because we are becoming more and more aware of how much we have damaged our environment. I think its good that we are finally in that stage where we are knowledgeable about the consequences our actions impact on the environment and that we actually care. Decades ago, we weren't really aware that this and that product have harmful chemicals or at least we weren't really thinking in a more 'long-term' way on how we deal with things. At least, Mr. Gore and Leo DiCaprio's documentaries as well as others shed light and create media buzz to environmental problems which sadly, sometimes remain on the second, third, or last priorities of our governments.

A sign of the times. The world is in peril because of man's continued indifference to nature. Only a few years more and we'll witness how true those predictions are.
