God has not been silent in the least. He has been communicating as much or more than he did throughout all of history. He speaks to me and other Christians quite often. There are also people who are prophets today as there were over 2000 years ago. God speaks all the time, but you have to believe him to hear him.

He has given that job to the Holy Spirit............before Jesus ascended into heaven, He told us God would send the Comforter (Holy Spirit). He speaks to people. The last time God spoke audibly was at Jesus' baptism. But, when the saved are raptured and the Holy Spirit ascends with them......Jesus will speak audibly calling them and His voice will be heard round the world.
There was a time that God was silent.....the 400 years between the Old and New Testament, but the last 2000 years or so He has been speaking through the Holy Spirit.

He hasn't been silent. He just hasn't given any divine revelations to mankind that He intends for the whole world to be made aware of. 2 Peter 3, Matthew 24 & 25, 2 Thessalonions 2 and the book of Revelation all contain the prophecies that God has determined that we need to know.

God still speaks to individuals and gives messages to Pastors to deliver to their congregations or to other people for local situations.

Is it because we don't listen or we don't want to hear or we don't know what to listen for.

Is it because some religion has told us that we even deserve to hear the voice of the great creator.

Is it because there is another race somewhere else in the universe, that God would rather talk to.

Has God only been silent for 2000 years, what about the 5 billion before that ?

I would say the answer is , God dosen't care to waste forever talking to mankind because they demand it.

I imagine, it is not that He has been silent for 2000 years but He never spoke in the first place, as He is just a concept of man.

Silent? You must be joking! Or maybe most of the world just isn't listening. God speaks to His people everyday. He speaks through His Word. God Bless and Maranatha! ><>♥<><

God has not been silent. He sends His Holy Spirit to speak to man's heart. If you are compelled to do a good deed for someone, make a phone call, visit, send a card, pray, or simply say a kind word, this is the Spirit of God speaking to you and using you to help others.

What makes you think he has been?
Is it possible most people simply haven't seen, or heard?
I say that due to Matthew 7:13-14
"Broad and spacious is the road leading off into destruction, and MANY are the ones going in through it. Whereas narrow is the gate and cramped the road leading off into life, and FEW are the ones finding it."
Those 'many' are the ones who think God has been silent.

some soap pixies and water sprites tied him up and hid him away. He's been trapped in a giant clam in the Atlantic ocean for the last 2000 years.
Dont worry, they gave him some Sodoku to pass the time.

He isn't really "silent"
it's the people who think He is silent.
there are really many people who have heard God by the Holy Spirit, and have done many miracles.
God can choose when he wants to talk, where He wants to talk and who HE will talk with
