I am reading a book and here is an excerpt from the book:

Still, it will tend to be underrepresented in fielded applications because when learning techniques are used to gain insight, the result is not normally a system that is put to work as an application *in its own right*. Nevertheless, in three of the examples that follow, the fact that the decision structure is comprehensible is a key feature in the successful adoption of the application.

What is the meaning of "in its own right" in this paragraph?

Do you really think being abstinent is realistic? My friend, who is a nurse, works in a Conservative community. She works with teenage girls in a treatment facility. She was telling me about how so many parents refuse to let their kids take the new HPV vaccine because it promotes sexual behavior. So instead of protecting their kids from HPV and cervical cancer, they rather keep them at risk. Don't Conservatives realize that being abstinent is unrealistic? It might be the right thing to do, but it most likely won't happen. Humans are sexual beings and eventually, especially during their teenage years, people will begin to explore sex. It's a nature thing. So why not use the resources to protect them? I really want to know the reasoning behind some of these unrealistic views.
Note: This has nothing to do with Liberals. Also, you don't have to agree with me to get the best answer.

For years my family told me I needed to shut up and mind my own business-in no less words.

So I did and now they learn at me for not speaking up! For example, they take a wrong turn; I stay quiet. They yell at me and all I can say is, "well, I figured this was the way you wanted to go. I can't stop you." Or they take out a tampon instead of something else and I don't say a word because they hated me mentioning such things in public but they're horrified later when they learn what happened. So they get irritated.

Basically, I want to go back to what I was doing before. Any suggestions at breaking this habit?
