some people think that the violence committed to animals is connected to the violence a country experiences against itself, such as war and terrorism. kind of like "what ever goes around comes around."

No this is an excuse that so often and widely used. While I wish there were powers stronger than ourselves to retaliate against animal cruelty there aren't. Some people are just addicted to violence. I don't always agree with the goes around thing because it's used in situations to make someone feel more powerful, an example of what I mean is when a natural bridge in Aruba collapsed one day it was said that it happened to get revenge on Aruba for what happened to Natalee Holloway.

The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.
-Mohandas Gandhi

I think a nation addicted to violence--and not just against the animals who are eaten, I might add--is more likely to want to wage war against a nonagressor nation. It's not so much "what comes around goes around" as "violence begets violence."

just worry about yourself and don't eat meat. but if you think about it you could say the same thing about plants and vegetables because they were alive before they were put into a salad.
