I have a bench lathe where the speed is adjusted by moving belts on different sized pulleys. As this requires stopping the lathe and opening the access panel, I would like to be able to change the speed on the fly. I have seen variable speed control boxes that you plug a tool into then dial the speed up and down. They all state that they are not for use with slow start motors. How do I know if the motor I have is slow start? Does anyone have any other suggestions?

In the UK, we have so many outlawed drugs, but over the past 20 years doctors have been prescribing worse – even to children. It’s almost like we’re living in the world Aldous Huxley described in his novel Brave New World...we will snarl at the 'blue pills', but swallow the red pills until the cows come home, realising in time the latter created yet another illness.
Would it be mature for 'blue pills' etc...the alleged 'nasties', to be put to use. If ganja (in time) got rid of, say, epilepsy for good after a period of intake, I would take it here and now, as I've had fits for nearly 40 years.

Why is it that the majority of gay men base their personalities around their sexuality when it really doesn't form a great part of who you are, but more what you are? This really gets to me - I don't like falseness

Einstein showed that all frames of reference are equally valid, so the earth can be considered as a frame of reference independent of the rest of the universe. Given that the earth is merely rotating and NOT accelerating, why are winds or missiles or anything above the earth's surface affected by the earth's rotation?

Does it have to do with conservation of angular momentum, as a body travels from large spinning circles toward smaller spinning circles (lines of latitude)? Even then, it still seems contradictory to relativity theory in that the earth doesn't "know" that it is rotating, nor does anything on it.

I guess my question is Why is a rotating frame of reference discernable from a non-rotating one? It's only rotating relative to the rest of the universe; does the universe's inertia matter? Is this related to gyroscopic precession?

...that America, has been calling us "Hispanic," "Mexican," "(other Hispanic culture)," and "Mexican-American?"

i get annoyed when people tell me what to call myself. but when i look back and think about it, is it not America that has been calling us these things that you all so dearly detest?

Don't get me wrong, i'm not dissing America AT ALL. but why do people assume that we are freely calling ourselves these names i mentioned above?

when i take a test at school, it asks me to bubble in "Mexican-American" or "Hispanic"

i thought i was American?

also, many people constantly ask me, "are you Mexican?" either that, or if they already know i am, they will address me as a Mexican.

so for all you "hyphenation-haters," even if we wanted to be just "American," we couldn't because for some reason, we will always just be "Hispanic," or "Mexican," or "(other Hispanic culture)," or "Mexican-American"

Is it not true?

Personally, i feel insulted by it. I was a victim of domestic violence and i think its making a mockery of women who are currently going through it.

It's hard to confide in someone when this is happening to you but now i feel in view of this storyline, are victims gonna be believed!!!

I've noticed that a lot of websites now are wishing visitors 'Happy Holidays' instead of 'Merry Christmas'. Additionally I've read about schools who are having 'holiday parties' instead of 'Christmas plays'. The same seems to be true of a lot of retail stores. Why can't people say 'Christmas' anymore? Are there people out there that are offended by this term? I've spoke to a variety of people from numerous faiths and they all think it is policial correctness taken much too far. Does anyone know anyone who is actually offended by the term 'Merry Christmas'?

Jesus said to be joyful when you are persecuted for the faith and to pray for your enemies.

Can I get a majority of Christians to do that for the uncivilized behavior to pray and thank Jesus for their persecutions of Christians?

THANK YOU.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

I've been looking through phone magazines but I just haven't found the right phone for me, and it's driving me nuts!

I'm not concerned about music, because I've been down that road before and it's so much hassle compared to an iPod, so I'm not looking for a music phone. I love photography so I want a phone with a very good camera (at least 2 megapixels) and I want the phone to be stylish, too, and not something that so many people have, like the Sony Ericsson K800i.

I will NOT ACCEPT a BENQ-Siemens, Motorola, NEC, Sharp, Sagem, or anything else that's utter crap. I'd much rather have a Nokia, Samsung or Sony Ericsson, but if there's anything else out there that's easy to use and doesn't break down easily, then feel free to tell me.
