...that America, has been calling us "Hispanic," "Mexican," "(other Hispanic culture)," and "Mexican-American?"

i get annoyed when people tell me what to call myself. but when i look back and think about it, is it not America that has been calling us these things that you all so dearly detest?

Don't get me wrong, i'm not dissing America AT ALL. but why do people assume that we are freely calling ourselves these names i mentioned above?

when i take a test at school, it asks me to bubble in "Mexican-American" or "Hispanic"

i thought i was American?

also, many people constantly ask me, "are you Mexican?" either that, or if they already know i am, they will address me as a Mexican.

so for all you "hyphenation-haters," even if we wanted to be just "American," we couldn't because for some reason, we will always just be "Hispanic," or "Mexican," or "(other Hispanic culture)," or "Mexican-American"

Is it not true?

Okay, so, why do I have to be considered "white" in tests, when really, I'm Greek? I'm an American, but I"m afraid that's not an option.

Why do people of African descent have to be considered "black"? I'm sure that's not what they want, either.

Quit whining. It's not just you. ALL of us are catagorized, but for some reason, the hispanics are the only ones getting offended. I'm white. That guy over there is black. You're hispanic, and that chick over there is Asian.

... But we're all Americans, regardless of what some paper says. Get over it. It's a test. That's it.

It is true. The problem is "political correctness".
The idea of "political correctness" is dividing our people. It creates groups who feel they must compete for government resources.

Political correctness is Cultural Marxism. A way to criminalize free speech among other freedoms.

Read this Bill Lind paper about political correctness.

Nothing is wrong with "Hispanic." If you are of Spanish descent, then, you are Hispanic or Latino. Your nationality is American but ethnicity is Hispanic.

I agree, and have often wondered the same thing. I think the same is true for any nationality, though; Blacks, Native Americans, Asians. That's life, though.
