Note, I use the word stance and not choice, I don't view Atheism as a rejection of god, rather theism as rejection of reason...

Indeed, atheism is often viewed as a choice and your decision to make it clear that atheism is in fact the default position, as theism is a learned concept, starts the thread off on a high note for me. I believe that due to a lack of evidence coupled with ample scientific explaination for our current state (as well as continuing breakthroughs and new discoveries which push the limits of human understanding ever further) of being, atheism remains the only tenable position.

The key word here is "logical", and logically speaking there are no evidenced alternatives.

While freely admitting that science cannot prove a God neither has science in any way proven there is not a God. There is ample archaeological evidence proving that the stories in the Bible are accurate, that only proves that it is a good history book. There is also mention of Jesus in Roman and Jewish history outside of the Bible. This proves he existed but not that he was God or the son of God. On the other hand most accept science when it states that the Universe stretches farther than we are capable of seeing even with the most advanced telescopes. We believe Nero was an Emperor of Rome, from History and written records. It is called a preponderance of evidence. Those that believe in God and Jesus can state the same case. If I can believe in Galaxies I cannot see, I can believe in a God I cannot see. If I can believe in Caesar, Nero, Spartacus, and Sargon from history handed down and recorded by those who there. The I can believe that Jesus was real for the same reason. And if Jesus was real well???

It's not necessarily the only logical stance. I think deism and agnosticism can be logical too. I don't see any logic in theism and organized religions though (no offense to anyone).

I'm an atheist by the way.

Of course not. Everyone should believe in a god. If a god doesn't exist, you haven't lost anything by believing in them, but if they do, then you gain by believing in them and taking part in the salvation the god you worship offers.

For instance, I believe in Mumbo Jumbo, whose only requirement is for you to rub blue mud in your belly button so you can go to heaven and sit on his right hand side.

Yeah, there will be much gnashing of teeth, when the day of judgment comes, from the unbelievers who mistakenly believe in their false gods and that they will sit at their god's side in heaven. Yes, the hell of unbelievers will be filled with wailing infidels on that great day when Mumbo Jumbo's blue bellied believers will rise to sit at Great God's side and join him in passing judgement on all those who judged others during their lives.

All hail Robert A. Heinlein, the great prophet, who even today sits on the right side of God, and awaits the judgement day. Mumbo Jumbo is mentioned many times in his great works, which are scientifically and historically accurate, unlike the Bible, the Quran and all other religious documents with the possible exception of the Vedas, which accurately describe the land that was drowned by the sea 10,000 years ago when the ice melted and the seas rose.

So it's either Mumbo Jumbo, or Hinduism you should believe in I guess. The only actual scientific religions.

I have a great reason to believe in God. Atheism would never be my choice nor stance. When you have a personal relationship with God, you know your reasons.

No, agnosticism states that the presence of God is possible but, with it's influence beyond the reach of human perception, it is impossible to disprove the existence of that witch cannot be proved.

Atheism is...is a person who has rejected wisdom..not God. I can assure you Atheism won't exist for much longer. Create peace! Ban the devil and his war!

For Atheists I guess it is. And generalizations aren't worth much... people who use them constantly, obviously don't deal with individuals.

A note I wrote on a similar topic. Its relevant. Someone that was afraid of hell.

You are at a brilliant step in logic. A step that most religious people can't get to. Serious questioning. Actually posing questions honestly about the churches message. The biggest hook they have to their system is fear, brainwashing and mind control. You just described the biggest fears a human can have. This means you are intelligent in the very primitive sense. I respect it. I'm sad to say, I have no one in my life that is religious. No one. A very loving and good family and friend circle I have. None are going to hell, none of them are remotely worried about it. Its a joke you and most people haven't figured out.

I find anyone who is religious. I can't respect them. Neither can anyone who has figured out the whole thing is the greatest lie told to humans. No non religious person really respects religious people's minds. Its inferiour logic. Like we don't respect children intellectually on certain high level topics. We ai til they're old enough. Some people don't make it that far in the adult world, in terms of being clued in to basic reality. They have a feeling of inferiority. They know we're smart people. They just shut it down. Can't get past a barrier. Closed minded. Like a psychosis, but a very common one. But born out of weakness in mind and character.

The people that 'get it' are getting more numerous. Remember the matrix? Ring any bells???? But religious people can't get it. They'll just be defensive. Being defensive is a trait that is very weak. Its insecure, its emotional, its the trait of liars and people in the wrong or deluded.

I can explain it all to you. I think I'm a genius and I studied philosopy. So neat huh? I could have done math or science. But I directed it into a profound way of thinking to my financial and professional detriment. I can tell you all the secrets and self evident truths. A wave of calm will wash over you. If it doesn't right away. I'll keep trying to find a way to truly prove it to you.

Then you're in the club. The relaxed group of people that know there's no way you're going to hell and the devil is no more real than santa claus. Do you think santa's a real person? No, That's ridiculous! He's made up and clearly a fake character. So is the devil. Simple.

All religions are clubs for the weak with some people getting seriously wealthy and powerful. Through history no country has weilded the wealth and power the church has. And the power! My god these people have lived like rock stars for hundreds of years. The wickedest scam ever. With a very extrme and corrupt history. Totally corrupt, the posterchild for outrageous power corruption. Punctuated in the modern age by pedophillia. This is a group that is shielding and protecting pedophiles and they're getting away with it. Scary, that even the top guys don't do more than give it awkward lipservice. They don't actually do anything really. They shift them, reassign them and protect them from prosecution. Protect? Despite puplic outcry? Incrdible power and corruption. That's where they earn my revulsion.

Not helped by my recent trip to Europe, my god all the money was in the church's power. They even controled the artists and scientists. Seriously! Galileo, had one of the most amazing discoveries in Human history. That punched a huge hole in the church's credibility. Unrecoverable to a level of intelligent questioners. Science. The earth revolves around the sun, not vice versa as the church says. It proves they are dead wrong, proveably. A major fact they were way off on.

Man they shut that guy down and ruined him. He only got his official recognition by them a few years ago! They owned michaelangelo. A brilliant genius. They owned him and he knows it. There are all sorts of ways he made fun of them publicly in his art. A wink to the growing number of future intelligent people that will expand into the future.

He got that point too. Our chain of progress. That we take for granted. We shouldn't. Its interruption would be extremely bad. The US is flirting with some seriously bad things for the human race. Wars and styles of government for the worlds leading society. I think they'll straighten it out. Its far away, but this Bush thing might turn out to be a great period in American history. He was so bad a pure extreme of the right wing agenda. And he got a way to be extreme in his political culture. 9/11. The american people will fix it sooner than you think. We just need to get more money for education down there. And disentangle their news and media empire monopolies. So the people can catch up to the the rest of the western world in civility and forward thinking for lack of better vocabulary.

You should have seen the evidence of poverty the church caused, And erecting massive churches and buildings to show off the wealth shamlessly. They were arrogant and corrupt. I was outraged. This cathedral could pay for food and clothes and majorly basic health care. But they swim in opulance while the huge masses starved and suffered all around them.

Its this organization that made up the whole hell story. They had periodic meetings and made up their story. They took lots of notes. This is all real and proveable. History in its purest form is truth. And solves the riddle caused by the addage, 'history is written by the victors'. Like a noble and heroic movie starring them. Historians try to find out what really happened. Its totally a fiction. They got major power from this lie. But its a lie.

So don't worry :)
