I've noticed that a lot of websites now are wishing visitors 'Happy Holidays' instead of 'Merry Christmas'. Additionally I've read about schools who are having 'holiday parties' instead of 'Christmas plays'. The same seems to be true of a lot of retail stores. Why can't people say 'Christmas' anymore? Are there people out there that are offended by this term? I've spoke to a variety of people from numerous faiths and they all think it is policial correctness taken much too far. Does anyone know anyone who is actually offended by the term 'Merry Christmas'?

Mercea C - Why does it offend you?
Caitlin H - Why might it offend those people?
People could wish me a happy Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Ramadan or any other celebrated event, and I wouldn't take offense - I would respect their beliefs. Why is 'Christmas' any different?

Im not a Christian but I find the replacement of 'Christmas' with 'holiday' to be offensive.
'Holiday' is just a contraction of 'Holy day' anyway so what is the point?
Its a traditionally Christian celebration. Are Christians no longer proud of it?

No, and I have noticed the same thing. My younger brother's high school actually put out an announcement that it wasn't appropriate for students to say "Merry Christmas" to each other!!!!
They said it was considered offensive to certain people. In the meantime, my daughter is bringing home papers from school that explain how all these other holidays work. I asked her if they talk about Christmas, and she said, "no, we're not supposed to" --- she's 5 years old!!!
ARRRRGGGGGHHHH! Why is this such an offensive holiday? I would have no problem with someone saying "Happy Hannukah" or "Happy Kwanzaa" or "Blessed Ramadan" to me, why do people get offended every time someone sneezes???

The same people who think it's OK to sue a municipality for a Nativity scene or an establishment because they smelled someone smoking outside that are offended. The problem as you correctly deduced is the PC BS that has been forced upon us by the liberals it is no longer PC to speak the plain truth for fear of offending someone well I guess if you are running for political office that would be a good idea at least in theory but the fact is that most of us are sick and tired of it I for one would love to see the end of it. There is an old axiom "You can please some of the people some of the time but you cant please all of the people all of the time " and to me that is what this BS is it's trying to please all of the people all of the time. I will vote for anyone who tells it like it is and I am sure that people who think the same way as me are swiftly becoming the majority in this country. (Does that mean we are politically challenged in PC speak?)

It costs less for the organizations to pander to a group of 5 people even though 90% of the people are not offended.
At the end of the day if people start getting offended that Christmas is being pushed out of the public suqare then those looking for money or votes wil start to take notice.

It does not offend me. It shouldn't offend anyone. This whole thing over Merry Christmas is just another attempt on breaking down the United States of America from the inside.
I refuse to shop at stores like Best Buy who has told their employees that they will be fired if they say "Merry Christmas".
All my business will go to TARGET who uses "Merry Christmas" in the store and in their ads on TV.

Christmas is not a happy time for everyone. It can be a sad time of missing family.
Not everyone is Christian so it is nice to send out a holiday card. I just send out a new year card because it is the standard callendar year and that way everyone is included.
The words Christ and Mass do not offend me what offends me is how it is not about Christ and it is not about Mass and how it is about comericalism and spending money.

I have said Merry Christmas for 44 years and I will keep saying it. No one will take my CHRIST out of my Christmas. What offends me the most is seeing Merry xmas.

I am an atheist, and it seems we are always getting blamed for all this by people like ORiley, but I am here to tell you guys that saying "Merry Christmas" does not bother me one bit. I agree that we have gotten way to PC. What offends me are the people that are soooo worried about offending people. I don't agree with Christianity on many things, but if you do.... good for you. As long as it is not hurting me, I have no right to tell you what you should believe, and vice versa.

its an agenda from the PC (politically corrupt) crowd. They are trying to remove not religion or religious icons from society but rather they have a personal assault against Christianity. Why arent they proclaiming in order not to offend we shouldnt refer to ramadan as ramadan but as a season or holiday fast and celebration? Oh I forgot that is a muslim holiday. what about buddhist holydays? nope its a obvious attempt to silence christianity
