I am always very pleasant when I go into a library; i've been to many. I've been snapped and treated like a bother more times by librarians to know it's not just coincidence. What's the deal?????????

We got our DVR with DirecTV last winter, and from the beginning have had trouble with it's failing to record a series, failure to record full episodes of a show (gives out after the first 10 minutes), and trouble fast forwarding and rewinding. We were never told that we had to buy insurance on the DVR to have it serviced after 90 days of owning it. Last night, we were playing a recorded show. It started to become a little grainy, the screen went blank, and now the unit won't even turn on, although it sounds like it's running when it's plugged in. We've checked the cable, have tried to reset it (blue waiting screen that eventually goes black), and are at our wits end. From what DirecTV told us previously, we'll have to buy a new DVR or sign up for another 2-year contract if we send this one back. Anyone else have this much of a problem? Have you dealt with the company? Is it worth reporting this to the Better Business Bureau? Any help is appreciated.

My ex and I have been separated many years (15+), but never legally divorced (or legally separated for that matter. My ex was an officer in the Navy when we married and when we separated. My ex left me with no warning or provocation. Came home from work and found most of the furniture taken and no good bye note. How do I find out what benefits I am, if any, entitled too and who should I contact to get more information?? We were married in the state of Louisiana if that matters.

Parents, at what age did you start giving your child an allowance? How much was it and what types of chores did your kids have to do to earn that allowance? My daughter is 7 and she does have to clean her room and help with setting the table and such, but seems to be getting less and less helpful. Want to encourage her to help more, thought maybe it's time to start allowance. What are your suggestions?

why racial discrimination is wrong?

I DO believe it's wrong, of course. I agree with Martin Luther King that it is contrary to God's law, as he stated in his Letter from a Birmingham Jail.

I also believe the phrase "under God' in the Pledge of Allegiance, as well as the concept in the Declaration of Independence that all people are equal and have rights given by a higher authority than any government, serve to protect people's rights. To be sure, people THINKING they know what God wants has caused much misery, but people thinking there is no one to answer to at all except for themselves seems a recipe for mischief as well.

So I wanted to throw my question out there, since many people preface their questions on social issues with "without bringing religion into it . . . " I suppose one could say morals are different from religion, but people often say don't bring morals into politics either.

Thanks.

My path is in the Pro Life advocacy role. Counseling women who have had abortions, trying to help them cope with the loss, grief, guilt and depression AND speaking out about the reality and horror of abortion.

I've been reading a lot of comments on this lately. I find it really sad and disturbing that peole are so bigoted still! Parents are supposed to love their children unconditionally, I can't imagine how some parents put down or even kick their gay children out of their homes. Makes me sick.

Ideally I'd like to become minor Royalty, but anyone would be acceptable to me as long as I can have several credit cards.

I know a lot of you will criticise me for this, but we each individually decide what we want from life and what I want is money, money and an adopted baby like Madonna.

Three newly incarcerated convicts are discussing how they will pass their time in jail.

The first one pulls out a harmonica and says "I can play all my favorite songs on this."

The second takes out a deck of cards. "I can play poker with myself with these."

The third gets out a box of tampons. "Well, it says on here that with these I can go swimming, horseback riding, cycling, ..."

A little blind girl goes up to her mum and says, "Mummy, mummy, when will I be able to see?"
Her mum replies "I'll tell you what, I'll take you to the chemist and get you some special cream for your eyes and you will be able to see in the morning."
So off they went to the chemist, got the cream, and went home, all the while the little girl was getting more and more excited at the prospect of being able to see again. Once they got home, the mother put the cream on the little girls eyes, wrapped a bandage around her head, and took her to bed.
The following morning the little girl stumbled into her mums bedroom and excitedly shouted "Quick mummy, take off the bandage so that i will be able to see again."
So the mother slowly took of all the bandages, taking her time, and all the while the little girl was getting more and more excited. Once they were off the little girl said "But mummy, I still can't see."
To which the mother replied, "April fool!"
