I've said and done some pretty awful things that I regret, and that have hurt people. I didn't mean for anyone to get hurt and at the time didn't see how it could, but somehow someone always does. I look down on myself for alot of stuff I did, and even though my family doesn't mention it much I feel like they always expect me to screw up. I can't let myself move on and i have tried to do right but always end up repeating my mistakes, how can I move on?

I live in a second floor flat. My husband is out most of the time working.I have an 18 month old daughter who is a very active and happy baby. She is very friendly with all our neighbours and friends and is loved by all in the building.Recently my maid told me about our first floor neighbour who lives just below our flat telling others that she is having problem with the screaming and squealing of my baby as it disturbs her peace at home.My baby is in this habit of moving and dragging things around the house and she had been very cranky till last week maybe because of her teething. All this sound and noise is disturbing her downstairs.
Now I really don't know how to handle this because she is planning to come and complain to me about all this one of these days. And I have been feeling very bad after hearing this because I really do not know what to do? I have no idea what that lady wants me to do. Does she expect me to tie up my poor baby and tape her mouth or something? Please help.

There are many things that you can do to strengthen your relationships. Often the most effective thing you can do involves saying just three words.

When spoken sincerely, these statements often have the power to develop new friendships, deepen old ones and even bring healing to relationships that have soured.

The following three-word phrases can be tools to help develop every relationship.

1. Let me help:

Good friends see a need and then try to fill it. When they see a hurt they do what they can to heal it. Without being asked, they jump in and help out.

2. I understand you:

People become closer and enjoy each other more when the other person accepts and understands them. Letting your spouse know - in so many little ways - that you understand them, is one of the most powerful tools for healing your relationship. And this can apply to any relationship.

3. I respect you:

Respect is another way of showing love. Respect demonstrates that another person is a true equal. If you talk to your children as if they were adults you will strengthen the bonds and become closer friends. This applies to all interpersonal relationships.

4. I miss you:

Perhaps more marriages could be saved and strengthened if couples simply and sincerely said to each other "I miss you." This powerful affirmation tells partners they are wanted, needed, desired and loved. Consider how important you would feel, if you received an unexpected phone call from your spouse in the middle of your workday, just to say "I miss you."

5. Maybe you're right:

This phrase is very effective in diffusing an argument. The implication when you say "maybe you're right" is the humility of admitting, "maybe I'm wrong". Let's face it. When you have an argument with someone, all you normally do is solidify the other person's point of view. They, or you, will not likely change their position and you run the risk of seriously damaging the relationship between you. Saying "maybe you're right" can
open the door to explore the subject more. You may then have the opportunity to express your view in a way that is understandable to the
other person.

6. Please forgive me:

Many broken relationships could be restored and healed if people would admit their mistakes and ask for forgiveness. All of us are vulnerable to
faults, foibles and failures. A man should never be ashamed to own up that he has been in the wrong, which is saying, in other words, that he is
wiser today than he was yesterday.

7. I thank you:

Gratitude is an exquisite form of courtesy. People who enjoy the companionship of good, close friends are those who don't take daily courtesies for granted. They are quick to thank their friends for their many expressions of kindness. On the other hand, people whose circle of friends is severely constricted often do not have the attitude of gratitude.

8. Count on me:

A friend is one who walks in when others walk out. Loyalty is an essential ingredient for true friendship. It is the emotional glue that bonds
people. Those that are rich in their relationships tend to be steady and true friends. When troubles come, a good friend is there indicating "you
can count on me."

9. I'll be there:

If you have ever had to call a friend in the middle of the night, to take a sick child to hospital, or when your car has broken down some miles from
home, you will know how good it feels to hear the phrase "I'll be there."Being there for another person is the greatest gift we can give. When we are truly present for other people, important things happen to them and us. We are renewed in love and friendship. We are restored emotionally and spiritually. Being there is at the very core of civility.

10. Go for it:

We are all unique individuals. Don't try to get your friends to conform to your ideals. Support them in pursuing their interests, no matter how far out they seem to you. God has given everyone dreams, dreams that are unique to that person only. Support and encourage your friends to follow
their dreams. Tell them to "go for it."

11. I love you:

Perhaps the most important three words that you can say. Telling someone that you truly love them satisfies a person's deepest emotional needs.

The need to belong, to feel appreciated and to be wanted. Your spouse, your children, your friends and you, all need to hear those three little
words: "I love you." Love is a choice. You can love even when the feeling is gone.

Never take some one for granted,Hold every person Close to your Heart because you might wake up one day and realise that you have lost a diamond while you were too busy collecting stones." Remember this always in life.

Its like I can't control my hormones, I go to college and see tons loads of hot women everywhere and it drives me crazy to know that I'm still a virgin and may not have a chance with either one of them. So I have this fat, lardy monster of a cat. Every other day he brings me adorable shrews, usually babies, that he has previously maulled to death. Yes, I'm aware he's giving me a gift, but I've burried about 9 shrews in the past month and it's breakin' my heart. Shrews are such sweet creatures, and they don't deserve to die a horrible death by my cat...especially when they're babies! My cat, Roofus, already has a bell collar to alert creatures to his presence, but obviously it's not working.

I'm thinking about putting TONS of bells on his collar. Would that work? I would keep him indoors, but he's a very demanding cat. He's not happy unless he gets to spend some time outside. I've tried letting him in at when it gets dark, but he has usually gotten a shrew by then.

Today I burried one and a HALF shrews, and it makes me so sad that my cat does this. Any suggestions?

And which one is worse for your health?? Let's pretend it is nicotine gum...not cigarettes, so lung damage is not an answer (I know some bodybuilders who chew Nicorette for pick-me-ups during workouts). And caffeine...I'm talking about coffee. I'm not a diabetic, so I don't have to worry about that (*knocks on wood*). I already know that nicotine is more addicting than caffeine. I know this for a fact. I used to drink 2 pots of STRONG coffee within a 5-hour work day every day at my job and I've been smoking for a long time. Stopping drinking coffee is a million times easier than stopping smoking cold turkey. And it is a little known fact that nictoine is more addicting than both heroin and cocaine--not in the short-term, but in the long-term. So, I know this much, but I just don't know which is a stronger stimulant. I ask this because I am on medication for an anxiety disorder and the meds make me drowsy. I can't work or function unless I doing something to keep from falling asleep.

I watched a programme (with subtitles) in which a muslim woman was defending wearing the veil on the grounds it didn't stop her communicating with others and so, separation wasn't an issue

Unfortunately I'm hard of hearing and rely heavily on lip-reading...it was impossible for me to follow what she was saying without having it printed up on the screen.

Real life, of course, isn't like this...

It seems to me that the original reasoning behind the veil now means that it is little more than an archaic custom that has little place in muslim integration in western society and places probably 1 in 10 people 'incommunicado'

I'm happy to respect the beliefs of others, but that needs to be a 2 way street... isn't something pointless and selfish going on here?

This is a serious question as this is an issue that troubles me deeply. Sensible and thought out arguments from both sides welcomed

Thanks everybody
