The first popup i got was 'System Integrity Check' that says i have errors in registry and file system. After this popup i started to get lots of popups to do with adware/spyware/malware especially the one telling me to download winantivirus 2006. Also sometimes when i want to go to a web page it takes me to another and i need to press back to get the page i want. Is this a virus? How to i stop it?

Aaaargh! Not the Winantivirus trojan! Never mind, it can be got rid of;

Before attempting to remove malware you must switch off System Restore as back up files will be hiding in there, and it will just restore itself. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.
Run your anti virus and anti spyware in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads. You'll know if you made it because the screen will be at 800 x 600 and your pc will be slow.

Then beef up your security. Its easier to prevent malware getting on to your sytem in the first place rather than trying to remove it.

The Windows firewall doesn't stop malware on your pc from dialling out. Zone Alarm firewall is free for personal use and stops unwanted incoming and outgoing traffic. You choose which programs are allowed to access the internet. It's fairly easy to use and updated regularly.

Instal both these web browsers, turn off javascript on one and use that browser for vising unknown websites. They don't support Active X so thats one less way for problems to get on your pc.

Spywareblaster works with Internet Explorer and Firefox. It won't uninstall spyware that is already on your pc, but it will prevent hijacks and other malicious changes to your browser.

You can also download Microsofts free Windows Defender from the official Microsoft site, and the Malicious Software Removal Tool.

Remember to update and run all of you anti malware programs at least once a week.

Not necessarily a virus but sounds like you been visiting some dodgy sites like P2P etc. Upgrade your anti-virus to one that has an effective Spyware,Adware and pop-up blocker. Since you have Yahoo!, use their Norton Spyware blocker/cleaner for starters. it's in the Yahoo! Toolbar download.

if anything ever pops up telling you to download an anti-spyware/anti-virus program...dont' do it.....it is adware/spyware in itself...
some of this can be hard to remove...i'd say go ahead and get a reputable anti-everything program, *ie. mcafee, norton* for the time being just get the yahoo toolbar w/ the free spyware tool, its DECENT for removing files, you will have to get something that goes further in depth...
also i'll recommend V-com Fix-It Utilites, it will help repair your registry and maintain your computer

good luck!

first of all ignore all popups telling you you need this you need that. Blah blah blah.

The AVG is a good one to get rid of viruses and trojans.

Firefox has a great popup blocker and a firewall try it to see if you like it.

run the ada ware and the avg and your troubles should be solved.
oh i almost forgot to tell you about spybot.com try that too its great.

First Off, please take backup of all your important files. ITs very tricky to get rid of all the malware/spyware from an "Infected" PC. Best bet would be to reinstall your Operating system & apply all the updates for your OS. Install Anti-Virus system and Firewall.
